Cohen's rules for the team are no drinking at all. They can not go to any bars. What's his plan to stop football game tailgate drinking? After September 19 Cohen will hold football gameday practices. On morning games and afternoon games he will schedule practice an hour after the game. For night games he will practice up to an hour before the game. This guy thinks of everything. This info came from a walk-on's father. Dont know if germans.

While I see where you don't want to have your players getting into trouble due to alcohol, I don't see where having a few beers would hurt you. The gameday rule is a bit much but if you are going to compete to go to the College World Series I guess you have to instill focus harshly now to rid the mindset of last year. It's unrealistic to think all of them aren't going to drink.

Yeah because most college kids know to stop after a few beers

Im sure they will find ways around it. Everybody on the team is not gonna be a saint. I guess when the puss gets throwed at mugshots they know they can call a baseball player for a sober ride to Poundtown.

i heard this from a trainer and didn't want to state it here because i feared i'd be accused of starting rumors... however, with 2 sources now that are close to the team, it's almost fact. ha...

anyway, i don't see anything wrong with a couple beers, but 99 percent of the college students i know don't stop there... so i can see his point of view to an extent

No drinking - at any time by any body

It will be interesting to see what happens

A Kentucky baseball player in Lexington can hide things much easier than an MSU baseball player in Starkville

That being said, here is one good thing......baseball player pre-game sex will be much better since they will be sober

Most baseball players like to have a good time, and most all like to drink. No way they will come to college and not. That's almost like asking them not to come to college at all. To say they can't drink at all, even when not in season just will not fly. So either they'll all get busted and suspended, or it just won't really be enforced.

Or no players who like to party will sign with him, and that's not a good thing.

Unrealistic? Maybe...but if they are on the team are they there to drink or play baseball? They can always chose to be something other than a ball player.

he plays the keg parties on Sunday off as motivation to win.

If they win the series, a 2-kegger.

If they sweep, a 3 kegger.

If they don't, nothing.

This, of course, is bought by parents of some of the players, and not Bianco himself...

onto Saint Cohen. If there's anything this baord gets really steamed about, it's someone telling them not to drink.

I think this is more about being consistent than anything else. Polk supposedly didn't allow drinking either- we all know how that went. And per "The Book" a player that is caught drinking is to be kicked off of the team.

Plus, drinking could be a big problem with the team. I have seen at least one person say that part of the reason that we played crappy was because they were out partying all night. I don't have a problem with them drinking, but if they can't handle drinking, and it affects their play, then something needs to be done about it. It's not any real secret that drinking and MSU baseball players go hand in hand, despite what Polk wanted people to believe. It's a tradition that dates back who knows how long.

Just to be clear- I don't think that the players drinking and partying too much was the only factor in their crappy play. In fact I believe it was maybe 1% fo the reason, if that.

I think it is a check on the level of commitment. How bad do these guys want to be on the team? Cohen has to weed out the weak somehow. I'm interested to see how it goes. I think those that are smart about it will still get together and drink, but keep it in check.

It's funny talking about former teams and drinking. That is the reason I got banned from the lake and came here. I linked pictures from Rick's website to the lake of the players out drinking the night before they lost a regional. It think it was in 2000 or so. They were supposedly celebrating a birthday, but ended up losing the regional from being out drunk all night. On the same note, I [rule violation] partied[/rule violation] with most of the 98 team during my undergrad. Those guys could drink with anybody. The only difference was they went out and kicked *** on the field the next day. I say that to say if you can drink and play then do so, but if you can't back up going bottoms up the night before than don't do it.

I don't know why so many of our fans get their panties in a wad because our players go out and drink.

Heck, a lot of them are over 21.

Edit to add- yes, I have heard some "Scott Polk stories", to. Never partied with them though.

I once saw 'The Thrill' so drunk he couldn't stand up and was crawling at 2:30 a.m. They hosted a Regional Game the next morning.

is why can some people play well even though they are intoxicated/high and some can't function?

Keith Hernandez could snort three lines of coke and get three hits, and yet, coke destroyed Daryl Strawberry's career.

The mysteries of life.

1. there is a pretty significant problem on the team with drinking.

2. this is a rule made to encourage players to at least be more private when they do drink.

Pete looks like he could put down a keg all by his lonesome......although beer gut or no beer gut, he can throw a baseball.
