I do not agree in the least bit with the notion of sitting Wes Rea.

He's a freakin' captain. If he's on the bench, he's not seeing pitches. Force him to put the barrel on the bat, somehow. He's not hurting us by being lazy, he's in a slump. Sit him for missing practice, for getting arrested, for punching his locker, or excessive defensive errors... you do not sit a team leader for being in a slump unless you clearly have a better option and right now we don't.

If he's the captain (leader) of this sinking ship, that's doesn't speak well of him. I think benching rea for a game or 2 could help him

Completely and totally 100% disagree. He's the one guy you need to get going, you do that by FORCING him to put the barrel of the bat on the ball... not by sitting him on the bench... ESPECIALLY for a game in a crucial series in front of a historic crowd. His defense is fine, his attitude is fine, his leadership is fine... his hitting is in a slump. Every hitter that has ever played the game has been in a slump. He will come out of it, its just a matter of time. Just like Renfroe did last year in Omaha.

Hope you're right. Wes is pretty much our only extra base threat and he's been absolutely horrible.

How do you FORCE him to put the barrel of the bat on the ball? Right now he couldn't hit a beach ball. Sometimes you need to sit a game or two to focus. Senior captain be damned. The mark of being a senior captain would be how he responds to getting benched. I remember a lot of us getting mad at Mullen for playing the seniors over who we thought were better underclass men...Dak and JRob. You gotta out your best performing people on the field. Right now Rea couldn't fall out of a boat and hit water.

Wes crushed the ball twice tonight. His hit was smoked to left field. And

Called hit and runs, called swings... hell even a bunt. That is calling a situation and making him see the ball and make contact. Football and baseball = apples to oranges in this case. Wes is in a hitting slump... as was Renfroe last year (in case everyone forgot... he came up huge for us in the CWS and was never benched). Slumps happen to every hitter and you have to ride them out. Everything else about his game is fine and his attitude is fine.

Also, why on earth would you bench him in the biggest regular season game to date in front of a record crowd for someone who is unproven at first base and does not offer the potential power wes does when he does make contact?

And lastly, Wes smoked 2 balls last night... one went in left field, the other was right at the second baseman's face. I don't think that qualifies as "couldnt hit water if he fell out of a boat."
