Kentucky should be going after Cole Bentley. I was disappointed when we never offered. Everyone said we didn't have room for any OG this recruiting cycle but we have offered 7 OG's including 3-Star Offensive Guard Sebastien Dolcine (UCF commit) who was on campus this weekend.

Bentley is ranked as the 42nd best OG and Dolcine is ranked 78th. I know rankings isn't everything and the coaches have eyes on scouting the players but man its hard seeing Looserville end up with a great recruit because UK didn't offer.

I'm just spitballing here, but could the fact that he wants to be an early enrollee be a factor in why UK didn't offer him? Maybe we don't have the room to roll him back and count him in the class of 2016? Again, just spitballing, but maybe that is the reason?

Could also be that we're looking for a tackle, but haven't found someone that really fits that mold and has been listed as a tackle. So, we're trying to find someone who is athletic enough to play either guard or tackle?

BigBlueWildcat, I had to do a "double take" when I clicked onto this thread, thinking to myself, what did I post in my remarks, not realizing that it wasn't my post!!! Now having read your thoughts I realize that our views are identical as they relate to Cole Bentley!!! I have posed this or similar views for two or more months now!!!

If we could get him back on board that would be awesome but I have a feeling that he's hell bent on making UK pay for not seeing his potential and offering.

I thought not offering was a huge mistake at the time and looks bigger now.

Bentley just got bumped to a 4 star rating by Scout. It also appears that our top offensive tackle target (Munford) is now Ohio State's primary option if it wants another OL after losing out on a higher rated prospect yesterday. OSU is Munford's most likely school of choice if offered.

If UK offers, have to think Bentley strongly considers it. Stoops and Schlarman are looking a lot better right now in developing offensive linemen than Petrino and his offensive line coach. Petrino was hurt when Mike Summers stayed at UF.

Pretty sure his dad posted about 4 messages on this board about how he was all U of L and kept saying "go cards". If that really was his dad then it would be pointless to offer him.

Not offering this young man is puzzling and disappointing to me. Belfry should be 100% all UK blue and any player who can play Div I football from that school should be at Kentucky. I hope something like this never happens again. It is ridiculous. The last thing we need is for UL to get a foot in the door in a program like Belfry.

I don't think they have room for a guard in this class. Schollies are in short supply and we have other needs to fill. Any other year I think he's a take.
Thanks Deeeefense for clarification. I just hate to see a 4 star lineman go to UL when he comes from the mountains. There are not that many in the hills and it just seems we could have made room for him some way. If he was from any place but Belfry it wouldn't be as disappointing for me but Belfry should always be Big Blue Country. JMO

I know nothing about the guy other than UK evaluated and passed, as did UT as did WVU according to his page on the Rivals site. Most of his offers were from smaller programs. He may end up being All-World for all I know but Stoops/Schlarman passed for a reason. We should respect that and move forward.

Not saying it applies in this situation but there are a 'lot' of factors that go into offering any kid and not offering for any number of reasons - not the least of which is character.

It's not as cut and dried as player A is better athletically than player B so we should have offered player A.

I'm pretty sure his dad was on here recently and said how he has never been a big Kentucky fan. I think he grew up elsewhere (West Virginia maybe?) and Louisville was his best choice. Then he said "go cards" to drive his point home.

Anyway, I'd say the ship has sailed. He's gone but I have plenty of faith and respect for our staff at this point to know that they know what they're doing.

Many many factors. And, cannot assess this through a rear view mirror. Need, spaces, timing, competition for spots, character, ...

Cats aren't going to go after him. Need tackles. Dolcine is the 3-4th option and is being recruited as a tackle. Scout rankings are questionable...he may be a 5* talent, idk, but Rivals and 247 are better at evaluating.

I hope the best for Cole except when he plays UK, but if this staff didn't offer I'll respect their decision.

His dad said on the Bluegrass Rivals Forum a few weeks ago that Cole was UL all the way. Would be enrolling in Dec. He lives in WV, a buddy he played AAU basketball with went to Capital HS in Charleston and is attending UL as well, a LB I believe.

Odd situation, but hardly worth losing sleep over it. If you are doing a good job recruiting, you are considering a lot of intangibles the public is not going to distill out of a recruiting service ranking. The services do well to review film, maybe catch a game live in some cases, and get a kid to a couple of camps. That still misses a lot of important information. Just trust our staff, and move on. He's committed to U of L, and that says something to me all by itself.

Are you ranting because Bentley just got an extra star? It isn't ridiculous, and shouldn't be puzzling at all. Bentley himself publicly explained why Kentucky didn't offer him a scholarship. If you missed it, Kentucky isn't recruiting centers or guards this year because Haynes, GAA, Stallings, Greenberg, Stenberg, Jackson will be back, and they might also have to move Fortner or Leavitt inside. All of these guys are good, and most of them will be in our bench. BTW 3 of them were 4 stars.

cole is 100% interior lineman. dolcine is a backup plan because there is a small chance he could play ot. we take 3 ot's in this class and whichever doesn't pan out is moved inside. if we take 2, and cole, and one doesn't pan out then we got 1 ot in a class that we were hoping for 3.... its that simple... we need ot's.

Greenberg's gone. Leavitt was moved inside in fall practice. Fortner's probably an OT.

Thanks for the clarification. I did not know Bentley was a West Virginian. Belfry is a hot spot for football and draws a lot of talent from over there. So I do not feel so bad now. My concern was a Pike County player being over looked by UK. So I will sleep well now knowing he wasn't a Kentuckian or a Pike County native. And now I can move on with a clear mind and support those who have committed and those to come.

I read it all. We don't need guards. He isn't from ky. He doesn't like UK.

I get it.

But when you're UK, and there's a 4 star OL prospect in your state you make the offer. If he expectedly says no, then so be it. If he says yes, you figure something out.

Then you DO understand. You just disagree. And, I disagree with you. Recruiting from site rankings is how coaches get fired (see Randy Shannon).

He only has offers from Louisville, Georgia Tech, Purdue, and Virginia. We're not missing much and made the correct decision not to offer. Scout is the site that ranked Randall Cobb as 2 stars, but also ranked Joe Mansour and Grant McKinniss as 4 stars. They are by far the worst of the 4 major recruiting services at evaluating recruits.

I'll take Sebastien Dolcine any day over Bentley because he's from Florida, is versatile enough to play OT, and reminds me of Nick Haynes.

I agree. Ya maybe we dont need him. But cant let a 4 star in state OL go without even an offer. Not at UK. Have to make it work somehow.
We, the fans, aren't privy to all the things that coaches look at. Grades, attitude, character, academics, chemistry with other players, comparing to similar players, etc. etc.. Thus UK might have passed on this young man and it was best to not say why. There is an old saying, "if you can't say something good about someone - then keep your mouth shut". We have to trust the coaches. Our coaches will make mistakes, they are human, but UK hired them to do their best and use their best judgement. We can feel free to criticize, but we should also support the coaches and their decisions.

Go Big Blue!
