So is Booth.I was very in favor of us recruiting Payton.
he's always been a very good player. hell of a baseball player, too.

Sure, I guess. But that didn't stop Frost from signing Hunter Haarberg who had worse mechanics. Either way, it's dumb that Nebraska hasn't beaten a rated team in 10 years and we continue to make excuses for these guys. But as I said before, it's a given that Cole Payton would be a worse QB if he went to Nebraska. We care more about stars out of HS than actual talent.#2 is hindsight bias. Nobody would ever suggest recruiting a 2 star QB with bad mechanics in the middle of Scott Frost’s obsession with Adrian Martinez.
Well there is a very good correlation with star rankings and collegiate production, as well as NFL status. So yeah, I’d rather recruit and sign a 4 star over a 2 star, especially when we can’t develop players worth a lick anyways. But I don’t fully disagree with your response.Sure, I guess. But Booth wasn’t the only running back they landed in that class Jamarion Parker was the other from St Louis.
I'll never win an argument that two stars are better than four stars, but on a case by case basis it just comes down to how you develop them. We've struck out with kids who need to be "coached up". And the four star kids who are flat out studs do not come to Nebraska. The same pattern is repeating itself with the transfer portal. Our transfers are not going to the combine like they do at other schools. Regardless of stars, we need *** kickers-- just my opinion.Well there is a very good correlation with star rankings and collegiate production, as well as NFL status. Did Haarberg get higher rated because he got an offer from B.C. out of HS and then Nebraska? That's it really. Meanwhile Cole Payton was better in high school, better in college and a better athlete. In truth, I think we should have recruited both Haarberg and Payton-- elite athletes who can play multiple positions. But in reality, Payton would not be where he is today if he came to Nebraska.Haarberg was also a higher rated recruit somehow, despite not being the Gatorade player of the year in Nebraska. They were in the same class as well.

The kid’s a flat out jock. Without doubt a better athlete than Raiola. I wonder if anyone would want to take bets over which one of the two has a better career in the NFL. Here’s what ChatGPT tells us about him athletically.
"According to NFL insider Jason La Canfora, multiple personnel executives now view Payton as the clear No. 2 signal-caller in the class, with high second-round grades and a belief he could ultimately climb into the back end of Round 1."
We can only wish that Nebraska was doing as well at developing top tier NFL talent, as, say, NC State. We aren’t even within sniffing distance of the top of the Big Ten.They've been developing better NFL talent period. They have been out working and developing our program for several years now.
Ideally, yeah. Recruit better guys. But I'm convinced that development is more important right now than recruiting. Just look at Cole Payton, who at this moment is considered by a few to be the #2 QB in this weak draft class. Iowa's line kicked our *** with guys from KC, Council Bluffs and rural Illinois. No fanfare with their recruitment, but now all this year all three will be drafted by round four. For me the better question would've been were these the best two guys that we could've signed out of HS? I would seriously doubt that was the case in either.
