The more distance I've gotten from season 1 the more...

..the simple ending pisses me off. Maybe I misread all the mood and tone created throughout the season as actually being clues and innuendo and it's my fault for expecting a grand conspiracy. Still, it was sort of a let down.

And I assume you meant True Detective.

Agreed but it was still a VERY good show. I do very much understand your point though. I do think he tried, in the end, to give it a somewhat 'believable' ending. And to do that, it really kind of just went from 100 mph to 30.

I do like the prospects of this cast for season 2 though.

I think the emphasis of the show was more on the struggle of the main characters rather than the inner workings of a weirdo cult. The weirdo cult thing definitely added to the show's allure but wasn't meant to be the main focal point of the plot. My let down was that the ending was a little too happy - "look at the stars, man"
