They are all pretty adamant about this being Mullen's last year though. I'm cautiously optimistic that Dan wants to build something here... so I'm of the opinion that Mullen will be here for atleast 2 more.

UGA is a historically better program, more money, and a very fertile recruiting ground, but if there's one thing I think we have at MSU that is attractive to head coaches is the leadership and vision. Not saying it will stop Mullen from leaving just that it is a factor.

Penn State or one of the prestigious East Coast jobs. UGA us a concern but I don't see him jumping next year. He's got good money, an AD and president he loves, his wife is happy, and he's designing his custom football only facility. I could be wrong but I think we have at least two years before he starts getting froggy.

Kelly won't be fired unless they go on probation, and Mullen isn't going to take a job somewhere if they're on probation.

Someone didn't think that through very well.

UGA could be a concern, but other SEC schools have tried to guage interest and the SEC office shut it down before it got going. Under Slive, the SEC schools haven't poached each other's coaches. Nutt getting canned and him going to OM is the only change I can think of off the top of my head, but he wasn't "hired away."

and they personally have Mullen third on their "wish list" behind Patterson from TCU and Smart from Bama. Patterson is an obvious choice, but the only reason I'd take a coordinator over Mullen is if I didn't have the 3.5 mil that would be needed to lure him away, but UF went that direction so who knows. Though it was either this past year or the year before that UGA had the highest profit margin in the entire nation for football. I doubt money is an issue

They know this is the last year they will feel good about playing us. Even this year many of them fear comming into starkville but one more year after this, it will be like 98 and 99 all over again. State will be able to walk onto any field with a chance to win.

</font></span></div>It's not ALWAYS greener. JoePa was offered NFL jobs and turned them down. I'm sure Beamer at Virginia Tech has been offered 'bigger' jobs, but he's stayed (and not won an NC).

Urban Meyer won a NC at UF but now he's out of a job. Replaced by a coordinator from a big school. Same level as from where MSU got our coach, BTW.

Whose job is better to have? Beamer's or Meyer's?

Fulmer at Tennessee won a National Championship and had several 10 and 11-win seasons, and still got fired. Two years later, Tennessee is hiring the coach from Louisiana Tech.

Auburn fired Tuberville and replaced him with a head coach that had gone 5-19 at one of the worst BCS programs.

Bama, Arkansas, and South Carolina got their coaches from the NFL.

Richt also has several 10 or 11-win seasons and if he STILL gets fired, then that job may not be desirable by every coach.

So NONE of the better SEC coaches were hot head coaches stolen from a BCS school.

And like UT and Auburn, Georgia may have to go a lot 'lower' than they think to get another coach. Good points. Also, people always throw the money excuse as to why Mullen would leave, but Seal has made that a non-issue now. So if you look at that Georgia poster's comments, which are said by many SEC "fans," let's see which ones stick-

Lots of money - Not an issue.
Big recruiting base - More NFL players than any other state per capita, save maybe Louisiana, which we can pluck from too. Not an issue.
Great Facilities - May not be number one, but we have pretty good facilities, especially with the new addition of the football facility being built. Not really an issue.

So, other than tradition, I don't see how State's coaching job is currently an inferior position that many try to make it out to be. And you can throw in less expectations, as you mentioned, and a joyous fan base with a sold out stadium, and we have a pretty strong argument that it is a really enviable job now.
