Ours was mounted on a tall poll (went all the way to the ground) and was attached to our chimney on the north end of the house so it could be turned by hand from the ground . There were no outside lights on that side of the house . I would bet you I could still make the trip to that damn poll from our den blind folded AND in the rain . Also, old Zenith, bad horizontal hold. Got squiggly lines often and I was told to "go beat the TV", which surprisingly worked for about the amount of time it took me to get comfortable an seated again. That was "normal" for my upbringing...You were the remote? I did that.
Also had rabbit ear antenna, and on occasion I was told to stand in a particular spot. (to make it work)
