Something of interest to the board.

Coach Matt Foster has COD currently ranked 4th in the country in the NJCAA polls and have earned a spot in the El Torro Bowl against Arizona Western. The Game will take place in Yuma, AZ. This is absolutely amazing despite the fact that COD is the only JUCO in Illinois.

If COD wins, they could finish in the top 2 or 3 in the country for the first time in the program's illustrious history. Only Joliet Community College and Harper have finished higher (Joliet was #1 in 2001 and Harper was #3 in 2008). Also if COD wins they could win the Non-Scholarship National Championship. (The Non-Scholarship and Scholarship colleges are placed in the same poll) If COD is ranked the highest Non-Scholarship program in the nation, they win the National Championship for Non-Scholarship colleges.

Keep COD in mind this Saturday. Lots of Illinois kids on the roster for COD.

Didn't COD win it all in the early 90's when McDogal (sp) ran the program like the U?

Have Illinois CCs (throughout the state) always been light on JUCO football participation, or was there a period where most of them did have teams but eventually dropped their programs? I'm aware that until about the late 2000s, Harper and Joliet still had their respective football programs.

COD did win a lot in the 90....They had a 36 game winning streak at one point. However they never finished higher than 4th in the country in the NJCAA polls. Since COD never gave scholarships, the rest of the nation never respected COD the way they should. For a comparison, think about the way people looked at NIU when they went to the Orange Bowl. COD would be similar to NIU in the eyes of the rest of the nation......the power conferences always had team that finished ahead of COD even though they had teams that were not undefeated.

McDougal did go to JJC. There he won the National Championship in 2001 and won the non-scholarship National Title in 2000.

Elisak finished in 6th in 2003 and 5th in 2004 at Harper. Both of those teams won the Non-Scolarship National Championships. Dragan Teonic lead Harper to a 3rd place finish in the polls in 2008 and won the non-scholarship National Championship in 2008
