There is still recruiting involved. Everyone has money, players got paid 30 years ago, they just get paid a lot more nowadays.

Maybe they did get a few thousand or ten thousands to sign back in the day, but the dollar numbers are much much higher now.

Also back in the day it was some dad or uncle or pastor negotiating.... today is actual professional agents. And not just one year, every year. It's a damn circus.
