What makes you think this? I see no evidence at all he’ll be fine as a recruiter. We see a lot of evidence directly to the contrary.

Would love to see it happen, but without a strong showing, elite 8 or better next season, or some really strong transfers (needs top 3 transfer class or better) I don’t see how he’ll even be here.

He’s skating on thin ice just making tournaments here. It’s acceptable at EKU, not UK.
He doesn't have any HS recruits this year. He was in the lead for two of the top 5, both were lost in negotiation, that certainly is not entirely on him. But even if it were, no recruits so far for next seaso is all you have

This isn't the platform for this crap and you know it. Yours is a just look at me post. If you can't separate the person from the religion, then that shows you're very narrow minded.
Yeah. I know. I'm a narrow minded douche.

The real accepting people are the conservative Christian right. Trump, Elon, Miller. Those guys are super accepting.

Trump, ICE, and the Christian right are super not narrow minded. Mormon's aren't narrow minded. Both of these groups are well known to be super accepting and tolerant of other cultures. (That's sarcasm if you don't get it)

And KSR is a sports podcast. Yet, they have an entire segment about the ICE shooting, and talk about politics frequently.

Matt Jones took up 30+ minutes of a podcast, plus carried it over to the next day.

I really like and respect Matt too. However, his take on the Goode shooting is ridiculous. There is literally video from multiple angles showing what happened. Be a man, Matt, and stick up for your people. Don't pull this "well both sides" crap. That's why we lose. You are no better than them if you are telling us to not believe what we see with our own eyes.

Matt's take was pretty ridiculous when there are literal videos from multiple angles showing what happened.

But here we have Matt "attorney" Jones saying it's debatable if it was legal for an ICE person to shoot the poor woman in the head - and murder her.

Shame on you Matt.
I literally like you and listen to you guys almost everyday.
However, your take on the shooting was absolute nonsense.
Did you even watch the videos?
Did you know the guy called her an f'ing B after shooting her in the head?
I thought you were religious...
A religious person would understand what happened is wrong and want justice.

Who is the bigot now guys?
Is it me? Am I the bad guy? Some douche commenting on the Internet? I don't even own a firearm....
- Am I the guy supporting a PDF (using that abbreviation to not get in trouble)?
- Am I the guy supporting someone who is disrespecting all our allies?
- Am I the guy supporting someone blowing up boats with no proof?
- Am I the guy supporting someone trying to force another country (Greenland) into the USA when it is clear they do not want that?
- Am I the guy who ruined our relationship with Canada?
- Am I the guy ruining our economy and job prospects?
- Am I the guy with clear ties to our historical nemesis (Russia) and doing everything they can to support them?
- Am I the guy trying to go against the constitution?
- Am I the guy threatening to attempt to stop future free elections?
- Am I the guy trying to send military into states to prevent their right to protest and their right to free speech?

There are so many more things I could go on about.
If I was a young kid, I wouldn't want to be in a conservative "heckhole" either.

It's insane what is going on right now. Religion is a part of it, whether you will admit it or not. For whatever reason, Church people, and their leaders, support Trump. Yet he is one of the most immoral people I have ever heard of in my life. The guy literally is on video with Epstein - on multiple occasions. It is a FACT that they were essentially best friends. (And don't give be the Clinton BS because if he did something like that then he should be in jail too)

Yet you Kentucky people still support people like him and turtle person Mitch McConnell. How the heck do you vote for McConnell time and time again? I would say he is even worse than Trump - but even he doesn't like Trump....

BTW, I grew up in Lexington, KY. I lived there for 20+ years. I do have a right to my opinions based on growing up there. Lexington and Louisville are cool though. It's the "craphole" rural areas that no one likes. (A lot of these players literally would probably look down on you.....)

I would love to hear someone's perspective on why you would support these Trump people. They aren't religious. They don't have your best interest at heart. They are manipulating you. You are literally voting against your own best interest.

I don't think anyone has said Chandler is as good as Dilly

that said......

at the end of the day, the Dillingham team lost to Oakland.

I'm at the stage where I judge the players impact/value in what they did for Kentucky.

This isn't a commentary on Chandler because he hasn't done anything significant in that regard either but he gets some rope if he is a guy that plays here 3 years in the NIL era
I refuse to call that team “the Dillingham team.” Cal and DJ stole a truly good season from us. If that had really been the Shep/Dillingham team we would have gone to the FF.

In Dilly's defense, he was held back by Cal for not starting him. I cant really blame Oakland on him, when a strong argument can be made that if Cal just played him and Reed instead of DJ and Edward's, we win some games in March.

I defend Cal a lot, but he 100% caused that final season with with inexcusable decisions to not start the best players. If he just swallowed his pride and had DJ come off the bench, the whole season changes.

Exactly.

Hopefully ICE doesn't come for Jelovic (or hopefully does), depends on how you view his play (he did have a horrible +/- today). He's not from America so we all know he doesn't fit the hard-working, lunch-pail kid, mould.

You forgot to mention that one group is "high IQ" and the other group Pope has to "dumb down" the offense for (his own words, not mine).
Where did u come from? Gracious God. Please go back.

Yeah, I think he obviously was reaching and went way too far. And its a false narrative. Over the course of Popes career, which, contrary to many on here, I think will be a long and successful one, Pope will do just fine as a recruiter
This portal season will tell us a lot about Pope. I hope he does just fine. If this team makes the tournament they can always get hot at the right time and make something happen.

As somebody else stated I didn’t expect to go 3-1 out of the last four. If we can keep goin 3-1 the rest of conference play that would be great. I went from completely down on this team to a slight bit of hope.

I will give credit where it’s due. Winning is always better than a L and I’ll give them credit for the three wins even if they were ugly. I need to see them do that against top 10 team.

I’m gonna have to put that on Pope man. Ok I believe you there were contract negotiations. You get past that however you have to if you’re Pope. Didn’t we hear an agent basically say he was inexperienced and emotional during negotiations?

That’s why I 100% put recruiting on Pope. A coach has what he has to work with. Even if UK is the only school in the country that has this set up which I do not know. Not the best set up ok you still have plenty other resources at Kentucky. I’m not gonna sit here and act like I know the facts of what we have but we have PLENTY of resources to land some top guys if you are a proven commodity and respected.

Pope just doesn’t have the data not to be funny..these recruits can’t trust him over a Cal or Bill Self or Sampson on and on…. Can you blame them? This is serious business and these recruits only have one moment. Vommit on my sweater already mom’s spaghetti …

Pope doesn’t have the connections or respect yet. IMO best thing to me would be if we are stuck with him for say the whole five years…. He keeps learning on the job sadly and gains respect/connections and gets more comfortable with this whole system. I doubt the expectations were the same at BYU… gotta sh it or get.

Hey I didn’t say this, I’m always up for religion and politics. Never understood why people don’t like it. Part of my degrees are in both though, and my spare time is spent watching political and religious debates. So I definitely didn’t say it.

when you learn about the study of power from men who’ve been ingrained in it, and I have, you won’t have a party at all.

Would you like to get into it? Let’s go religion first?
I mean sure but not on here. I talk UK ball here for the most part. If you send me a link to a religion forum or politic forum I’ll go back and forth all day. I have plenty of crazy **** for ya. I’ll keep my crazy Kentucky takes here

I think you are missing one key factor...
After we missed on a two top five HS kids we led on, where would you have pivoted? You can go after this four star or that one, OR, you can go after the 2-3 biggest fish in the portal this season. He is in a different spot than year one when he had nothing. I am sure he feels like he has 6-7-8 kids coming back that can play, especially in a supporting role. I think thats why he focused on the HS kids he did. I don't think he will look for quantity this season unless a lot of our kids move on. I think he will go after a couple of superstars

That’s best case scenario we keep several guys and get some good ones this summer. I’m really starting to like the thought of Johnson Chandler Kam Moreno coming back but we need way more than that. Way more.

No doubt about it. I think there is a good chance the guys you named plus Lowe, MM comes back and probably Jelly, and BG(I know lol, but still). I do think MD moves on and possibly Noah, but who knows. I think if thats all the case, a great 3 point shooter, a scorer regardless of position, and an athletic big who can defend will make this an outstanding team

It is my hope that MP realizes this team needs a couple of DUDES. He went after a couple that were HS kids. I HOPE and think its possible that he didn't pivot to other(less impactful) HSers because he is going after those couple of really stars in the portal instead of just good solid players

Let me clarify, I’m not saying this should be a yearly strategy. Just wondering if you end up in the position the Cats are in (wish we weren’t) is it smarter to go ahead and hit the portal (when you can)or take 40-50 ranked high schoolers?

Probably because he's an already married Mormon who doesn't drink or party by default.

His real age may be 21 (or whatever) but his normal person living life age is like 35.

I wish more people would talk about Pope's Mormonism beliefs as a potential reason why recruits don't want to come here, but no one seems to have the guts. I don't even know if it's allowed.

However, think about it. Most of these recruits are young African Americans, many growing up poor in single mother family households. With NIL, now they are instant millionaires.

You don't think some of the best are looking forward to going out partying (on off nights) with college girls all over them?

You don't think the best prioritizes money and access to nice things over being watched over 100% of the time?

They want to get to the NBA, get rich, and bang chicks.

This directly goes against Pope's morality. He has them on a tight leash. Probably can't drink, doesn't want them out at bars, doesn't want them having pre marital relations. That's not fun. I mean, Wilt Chamberlain was good and look at him. I mean Pitino was hooking up these guys with escorts for a reason lol.

Do you really think most top recruits want to hear Pope preaching about God everyday?

Good thing On3 doesn't have a down vote button, lol.
This take is SO ridiculous. So you honestly think Pope is stopping these guys from going to parties or having “pre marital relations” in their non-basketball free time? LOL

I can assure you they’re still having PLENTY of off court fun.

I couldn’t imagine being in college. Being the star player at Kentucky. While making millions. That’s a good life. Yea Oweh and the rest of em are having plenty of fun.

Can’t imagine what it would have been like in 2010 if NIL was a thing. How much does that roster cost us? Or 2015.

BTW, Evangelism is a direct tenet of Mormonism. It is part of the reason Pope wanted to leave BYU to go to UK. He views it as part of his mission to expand the word as much as possible. BYU is already taken care of. Kentucky allows the opportunity to spread the word to BBN. (Pretty sure he has insinuated this at times, in the early days.)
No, it absolutely is NOT. If it was, then he would be preaching Mormonism at us and trying to convert us. Instead he’s never said a single word about it …at least to my knowledge.

It’s bizarre how freaked out some of our fans are by Pope’s religion. You know, mormon coaches ain’t that rare. And it ain’t a big deal. Hell, we’ve spent the last decade watching the Chiefs win a bunch of Super Bowls with a mormon coach. Do you think Andy Reid was stopping Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce from going to bars or getting laid?

Idc what religion a coach is. Just win. Idc if he’s atheist. Just win.
