Wow. Shocking result. Vegas would probably have had Essex by 22 or more. Major upset. Classic trap game.

Congrats to the Beach! Looked like their entire coaching staff was scouting the Essex at Northumberland game. Definitely looks like their plan and preparation worked perfectly. What a win for those tough boys for the Beach.

Congrats to The Beach on beating my Trojans. I didn't get to watch this game like I wanted to. I was with my class taking part in the alumni tailgating. Seeing folks I have not seen in years from my class and the other classes I was in school with. All I know is Essex scored both TDs off of CB turnovers deep in CB's territory. Up 15-0, CB was about to go up another TD before the half from around Essex 5 or so, but the clock ran out. Essex seemed flat to me. CB came in and played their game.

Essex T, Tough game for Essex to lose. They need to regroup and win out,
And get some mo jo back for the post season.
It may be tough for Essex to get into post season if they don't win out. I think
The East only sends 12 teams to the playoffs, not 16 like the West. Please
Correct me if I am wrong about that. There still a lot of good teams with some
Good power points around the 12 slot in A1 East. Things will sort themselves
Out in the next 3-4 weeks. Good luck!

Xcross, I just edited my post when I thought about the number of teams that
The East sends to the playoffs. I think it is 12 teams. If it is, Essex will be hard
Pressed to make it in the post season. They might have to win out, and get some
Help with rider points to make it in. What do you think?

They should still be in the playoffs barring a major catastrophe. They were 8th before tonights game, ahead of a few teams with more wins than them. They will obviously drop after tonight to around 10 or so. But they will get plenty of rider points even from the teams they have lost to as with the exception of tonight all the other losses were from teams 2A or above. A first round home game may or may not happen as a result of tonight but a playoff bid is still likely in 1A East

Thanks, kwhs. Am I right about the 12 teams from the East? If so, Ess3x will
Have to win out in my opinion. They got Lancaster, W&L, and Rapp. to play.
You are more familiar with those 3 teams than I am, what do you think?

You are correct. Twelve teams from the east. Essex should get in but will be playing a first round game instead of receiving a bye. Their tough schedule has its benefit and this is one of them.

I think if they just make it , that could mean a westbound trip the Shen. Valley and Riverheads ! WOW Essex in the 1st round ? Time will tell!

Hey guys, I think it would be wrong of me if I did not congratulate Colonial Beach
On their win over Essex. I apologize for my oversight, and CB is to be commended
For their win against one of the Best programs in the State. Good game guys....
Keep it up, and you folks will be in the playoffs for sure.

Riverheads will get a bye in the first round so if it were to happen they wouldn't face Essex until the 2nd round. But still a lot of football to be played before any of that can even be thought about

Chilwar you are correct. Colonial Beach is a small school of less than 200 but usually always have a very good football team. They are now 5-2 with the two losses coming to Sussex and Franklin. Very well coached team and very respected in our area

OK guys, just what IF Essex is number 12 in the East, WOULD they maybe be
Matched up with Riverheads in say Round 2, because if I remember, the top seed
Gets a bye, or do they, and it looks like Sussex or Riverheads for #1 in the East.
Help me out here guys..........

OK, I was late getting this post up, but you answered my question! Things will
Get interesting in the next 3 weeks for the East and West.

The 12 teams that will be in are probably going to be:
Riverheads
Franklin
Sussex Central
Luray
Altavista
Northumberland
Central L
Colonial Beach
Essex
William Campbell
Surry
Lancaster

Essex will probably have no trouble being in, just a matter of where they are seeded.
Schools that look to be in if they take care of business/do just enough in the final 3 weeks:
Riverheads
Franklin
Sussex Central
Luray
Altavista
Northumberland
Central L
Colonial Beach
Essex

The last 3 spots are going to be for whoever can put the last 3 weeks together the best between these bubble teams:
William Campbell
Lancaster
Surry
Northampton

West point and Charles City winning this week may push them closer to that bubble conversation (with 3 of those 4 losing, haven't seen a Lancaster score.)

Middlesex and Mathews are probably out but are still close enough that they're probably not completely done.

SJ-Q, Windsor, King and Queen, Rapp are all out (maybe not mathematically) but would guess they would be out.

In the 2nd round the 1 seed would play the 8, the 2 vs the 7 and on down. If a 12 seed were to upset a 5 seed in the first round then they'd play the 4 seed in the second round

Forgot about the bye . Riverheads still has some football to play ! They don't overlook anyone ! SWVA race is a mess . Who can guess the team to come out of that bunch !

Hey Highpoint and kwhs, Thanks for all that info. In other words, if you are setting
At number 9 or below, in the East, you had better play your butt off the next 3 weeks,
And hope to get some help, or Basketball season starts early for you!

Hey Xcross, you are right about the West. Galax lost again tonight, but it was to
Graham, who probably will be in the A2 Finals. And Patrick Henry lost to Marion,
Who is improving. PH was #3 in the West, and Unbeaten.
So that leaves Hurley as the only unbeaten A1 West Team. No one wants to go
To "The Cliff" to play ! As they say: " It's a dirty job, but somebody's got to do it " !!!

And The Fort beat Narrows!
Whomever comes out of the West , I hope we host ! If we make it ? That is a long trip to the Cliff . Not nearly as far from the Cliff to RHS !lol

Out west I've been saying watch out for Parry McCluer. They had an early loss to Buffalo Gap but seem to be hitting their stride. They have Nelson, Cook and Dawson in the backfield and are physical and very well coached.

I've been saying all season, no one from the neck makes the final four. Not surprised by this score at all. Nothing but average teams in the neck

For my viewing pleasure only, I will list my top 5 east and west. If someone is not on the list, I have serious doubts they will be in Salem. In order how I think they finish.
East: Sussex, Essex, Riverheads, Franklin, AltaVista
West: Hurley, Galax, Wythe, PM, Fort

Haha. You just had Essex as your number 2 team in east.

I thought they may have righted the ship with a win over Northumberland. I was down on them all year till then. Now I am back to thinking I was correct with my earlier predictions

Must be nice to be able to change every week. Are you a politician? If Essex plays well you can say how you told everyone they were your #2 in the east. Good luck in November.

If Essex gets in the playoffs....IF.....you can bet those 5,6,7 seeds wont be happy they drew Essex as a 10, 11 or 12 seed.

I dont take mesage boards too seriously, and come on here for fun. What I am does not matter and neither does my opinion, and I'm fine with that. I will say it is not uncommon for people to change their minds based on the outcomes of games from week t

Let's get this straight - July Essex with addition of Todd Jones is a title contender, September with Essex bad start - they suck and West Point, Charles City can beat anyone, then Essex beats Northumberland and you rank them as your #2 team in the east, then they lose and you say you've been saying all along... it's ok to change opinion but don't post like you've been right all along; just admit when wrong and eat crow like I did.

I was alluding to CC and WP being able to beat anyone in the district or the neck. Charles city led kw big at half, so they could have beat anyone in the district. West point will for the first time this entire season start their next game with everyone back and healthy. They have not played KW or CC yet, so the district may still be in question. Yes I think they can beat both. They are averaging about 400 yds rushing per game. All year until last week I stated the neck was down, then in a moment of weakness after Essex beat Nland, I thought I may have been wrong about them, but now I don't think I was. And I pretty much did admit to being wrong about Essex, so I'm not sure what the big deal is. And I'm not prepared to admit defeat on the tidewater district title yet being they have not yet played the games. The bottom line is if anyone in either of these districts want to go deep, they gonna have to get better
