according to Herd (said it just came across his desk)it's to be announced today. And so it begins.

My internet cred is at stake once again.

anymore. Conference USA got it right. Even the Sun Belt is reaching with its description.

If the SEC expands and gets weird states like Missouri or something it should change to like "PIRATE CONFERENCE" or "CONFERENCE WHIP YOUR ***"

Colorado was about to be squeezed out by Baylor, so they jumped the gun and bolted to the PAC-10 first. Now the Texas schools (and politicians) are going to have to decide just how bad they want to keep the 4 Texas schools together. If they decide to cut Baylor to benefit the other 3, the PAC-10 wins big and gets the 4 schools it really wanted all along. If they don't, the PAC-10 goes after Utah (probably fighting the Big 12 for them) and expands to 12 and adds a championship game. Still a win for them, but not quite the home run the 3 Texas schools would bring.

One more possibility is that the SEC makes a play for Texas A&M, freeing up Texas, Texas Tech and Baylor to jump to the PAC-10. That's not quite the home run the PAC-10 wanted, but it's still a solid triple. This scenario could be a big win-win for Texas A&M and the SEC. The SEC gets access to the Texas market without having to take 4 teams, and A&M gets a real chance to come out from under Texas's shadow a little bit.

Can you imagine what the television ratings for an end of year Texas (Pac-##) vs TAMU (SEC) match-up would be? That game would be hyped up the entire year and would have greater implications/bragging rights than it has had in years past.

I just don't see how this helps the Pac10 in and of itself. If at the end of the day Colorado is the only school the Pac10 gets then this big hoopla and national viewed lapdance will be a failure. Heck, the Big12 might even figure something out and come out better. Colorado is not a huge loss.

The big boys (Texas, A&M) ain't goin' to the Pac10. Can you imagine the rich alumni bumping elbows with those Hollywood folks? I don't think so.

With all this expansion talkI'm glad any SEC plans are not being broadcasted every 5 minutes on ESPN. Its like TN's coaching search- it could be embarrassing.

They really want Texas. They really want Colorado over Baylor. So they make the early jump and get Colorado on board first, which all but guarantees the Big 12 will crumble now that they've lost bothNebraska and Colorado. They force Texas' hand and say, "You're welcome to jump in with the PAC-10 since your conference is dead, but it's on our terms....no Baylor." If Texas plays hardball, the backup plan is to just settle on a 12-team conference and go get Utah, who'd be glad to accept the PAC-10 invite and would be a pretty good fit in that conference. But there is no conference now that's going to absorb all four Texas schools together. The only way that happens with a new Big 12 that gets maybe a TCU and a Houston to replace Colorado and Nebraska.

I have been hoping from the start that Arkansas would get an invite to the Big 12, the SEC would add a team to the East, and Vandy gets kicked to the West. It is a complete win-win for MSU.

Slive could get involved and throw the Texas legistlature a life raft and invite Baylor, Texas, Texas A&M, and Texas Tech to join the SEC. That would get the SEC to their 16 teams anddominate the Texas market. ESPN could play a role by increasing the payout on the SEC TV package in an effort to keep the proposed PAC-10 network from being as dominant as it will be if the state of Texas becomes a big part of it. Stranger things have happened.</p>
