Comatose crowd

Just finished watching a game that we almost gave away.

Just curious, was the crowd sold Valium-laced refreshments tonight? No home field adv at all. Understandable given the easy early lead, but that cannot be a common occurrence or better teams will take advantage of what arky couldn't do.

I was thinking the same thing during the game. Normally The Hump is a very loud and intimidating place. Not tonight. But like you said, the early lead and double-digit lead for most of the game probably lulled them to sleep a bit.

I think Greg Byrne made his first big mistake in reseating The Hump and taking away the students' seats. The Hump isn't nearly as loud as it has been in years past.

..over the radio.

In fact, I could tell by the fans' reaction when State made a good play, or screwed up.

I watched the Ole Miss vs. Georgia game on TV last night. Now that was a comatose crowd.

so I think the verdict is still out, but I like the baseline seating for students though, then again I haven't been a student for quite awhile.

this might be one of the first mistakes byrne has made. yes it has put more memebers of the bulldog club in prime seats, and yes my seats were improved greatly, but the crowd noise has died down. dont know if moving the students is the for sure problem. i did look over at one point when ark was shooting free throws not one student stood up waved their hands or nothing. Also i know our cheerleaders are awful but only having 3 cheerleaders and especially only 3 pom squad memebers was a big let down. maybe we could move them around to get more cheering involved or something.

you wanna give me a reason you say that ?? Maybe you'd better take another look and compare to some of the other squads. With the exception of only a couple of other schools, our squads are pretty damn good.

when he said there were only 3 cheerleaders and 3 pom squad members, he meant that literally. and that sucked.

I love those commercials. My daughter is on the squad though, so I'm pretty partial to them.......especially after knowing exactly how hard they work with not much suppport at times.

about there only being that small group of cheerleaders at the game. No reason for that at all considering how many we have. Seems like they are waiting on the big game to put them all out there. We need all the noise we can get in there!!

well i hope they do good at competition. it did look that they have moved the line for the media and cheerleaders back a few feet from the baseline so they have less room this year. maybe we could position a few of them around the lower level to, and try to lead the sections in cheers during key points in a game. anything to let some of the people who sit around me see your not crazy if you stand up and cheer. with the student section split we need to come up with some new ideas on how to get the crowd motivated. I will give props to the band for moving around to various parts of the student section when they played that song in the 2nd half. great have time show too.

that in sec F6 I made it a point to say that the renovations are cool, but the crowd noise is not what it used to be......to be quite frank, I talked about how awesome it was in the 90s, and how loud it would get.....it was pathetic tonight.....no noise, not intimidating at all.....i had no idea byrne split the student section.....

i know money can buy happiness in college sports, but this is crossing that fine line of where it can't.....

I wont say the splitting of the students is the reason because i understand the money part of it. As far as pre-game build-up/excitement, not having hank flick is the nail in the coffin. the only positive i see is that separating the rowdies has destroyed their members(personal satisfaction). The old folks money is greatly appreciated but the Hump is no longer intimidating. I said all this in another post but i feel the need to say it as much as possible in hopes that Greg Byrne is reading. or at least someone from the athletic dept might be

But to say it hasn't affected game atmosphere is ********. It has. It won't ever be the same in the Hump. It sucks, but that's how it has to be. Of course, I also think losing Flick hurt, too. I wasn't there, but over tv, the new guy just generated no excitement from big scores. I know everyone hates the nasal twang, but his style was perfect for hoops. Now we're just generic blah like everyone else. Turrible.

even in the player intros, if i didnt know who our starting lineup was i would have no idea who was playing. I didnt mean splitting the student section was ok, i just dont think its the worst thing that could have happend. i use to sit mid court upper level in the old student section so im pissed i have to sit behind the goal now.

Seriously though, are you retarded? The crowd was plenty loud. Sorry you couldn't hear it from Kentucky.

If you watched the Clemson vs. UNC game, the seating for students is exactly the same. And it was loud as hell in an arena very similar to the hump. What matters is how fired up the students get and if there is some coordination between the two sections.

was the band running in between the aisles and playing. It was new and got a rise out of the crowd. Props to band for that.

I think the cheerleaders are at some kind of competition or something. Surprised that hasn't been mentioned yet.

And those of you who don't like the new seating arrangement can just get over it. There's no turning back.

I thought last night while watching the game on tv that it's not nearly as loud as it should be in there. Not being at the game though, I couldn't tell why.

I haven't been there since the student section was split. Can someone explain the difference now?

No matter, if there is the same amount of students, it should be able to get just as loud as long as everyone is going crazy as they should be.

For the win. Getting put behind the goals is no excuse for sitting on your hands. Students are supposed to be the lead group for creating atmosphere, and being relegated to the equivalent location of many other student bodies in America doesn't reduce that responsibility.
