There shouldn't be one single bad word said about Greg Byrne. I'm sure he'll be getting a substantial pay raise and Arizona isn't a bad place to live.

On top of all that the reason Byrne seemed so fantastic was because of the hole Templeton had put us in. The ideas and things that have been implemented over the last couple years aren't ground breaking, but they seem like it to us because of how far behind we were.

MSU is 10x better off in the 2 years Byrne has been here, and we should all be thankful for that.

I would never say a bad word about Byrne. I knew he wouldn't stay here. I feel fortunate to have been used as a "stepping stone". Hell, if we can get another stepping stone guy, for another couple of years, we could actually become a successful program, then we may not need stepping stone guys... In my mind, Byrne is the best thing that ever happened to us. Now we just need to build off what he's already started.

I see a lot of general praise and condemnation of those that may have reflexively insulted him.

Other than some Facebook pusscakes I think everybody gets it and are appreciative of the path he's put us on.

in a few Facebook posts, but for the most part it's positive (you know, like it should be).
It would be weird to have a job where strangers talked **** about your priorities and loyalties when you decided (for whatever reason) to move on.

I don't know who to be pissed off at, but I am. I like Byrne as much as the next guy, but I am mad as hell that he is leaving. That being said, I am only mad because of how much good he has done for the university in such a short amount of time.

I knew that this day was coming, I just thought it would be at least another year, maybe two. Same thing with Mullen. I hope he stays long enough to get us on a seriously competitive track.

Just now logging on today, and have not soaked up the SPS reaction.

But I agree with this completely. I am only surprised that he didn't leave for Oregon instead. Can't fault his reasons for going.

And I'm very glad we had Byrne for the time that we did. He brought more positive change to MSU in 2 years than we'd seen in probably the previous 15 years or more. He raised the bar for what to look for and expect in an AD and I am sure MSU will continue to be better off for years to come because of Byrne.

I compare Byrne to Sherrill. He brought a level of energy, excitement, and belief here that a lot of alumni though might not be possible. Like Jackie Sherrill, he showed us what's possible. And now we believe it.

Byrne will certainly be missed, but I think we'll be able to pick up the torch and carry on.

as he accepts "another opportunity." This will be his M.O. until he gets the opportunity for his #1 dojo (wherever that may be). Ninja knows he burns hot. He knows that not everyone can keep up with his pace for long. He knows his style of radical change progressive-ism can play out quickly. He will need to keep moving quickly in these early years in order to keep his wunderkind momentum going. Also, guys like Ninja have a list in their wallet that contains about 50 goals. He's scratching one off right now (serve as progressive AD at lower echelon D1 institution), and he's getting ready to strike through another one (serve as a progressive AD at a high-mid D1 institution).

It had to be a hard choice but he did it for his family. He has family in Arizona. It wasnt for the money so i respect him.

Actually,Keenum matched their pay offer to the dollar....it's not monetary.

Byrne took this job for an extra $88,500 a year . Its not like Arizona offered him the world. I know incentives are included as well, but if you take into consideration the money Keenum threw at him to stay, it is really not that great of a move financially. He also did not prove himself to me. Yes,I felt we were starting to move in the right direction with him, but his tenure was too short here for us to say he was truly successful. I would not have been sour about it at all if he stays 3,4,5 years then bolts. I just think when an institution like ours takes a risk on a candidate who is young and has no previous AD experience,18 months on the job is way too short to worship him and build a statue of him in front of Davis Wade like some of you want to do.

Lets face it. He got us all wound up for 18 months to promote and support our athletics, and he in turn leverages the few positive changes he made into another AD position. I feel somewhat used.

Thats my two cents. Good luck Greg</p>
