It was such a surreal time. The memorial service was so much sadder than it should have been because of what was going on at the time. If anybody deserved a true celebration of life, it was him. I still miss him.

I still shed a tear when I watch the funeral video.
Thanks for linking the videos. In the second one is a clip I’ve been looking to find for years. I absolutely love when he yells at Lou Eliades (pretty sure that’s who it is) after getting on (again, I think) Dennis Landolt, “Get that shirt pulled down!” Starts around the 4:40 mark.

It's time for Penn State to restore the respect he deserves. And the Big Freakin' Ten should put his name back on the trophy.
Neither of those are going to happen. He's not going to get any respect outside of Happy Valley, those cows are out of the barn and are not coming back.

His name is on the Library, that is the only major place it will remain. There will be no new memorials - nobody will be leading the charge to change that.

Joe will be remembered for a few lines in the record books and that is all.

Joe used the credibility he gained winning football games as capital to improve Penn State in countless ways not connected with athletics. It has become painfully
obvious that he was the university's only moral compass. I will never see a PSU football team run from the tunnel and not think of him. Nor will I ever forgive or forget what Surma, Corbett and their accomplices did to him.

Anyone find a other comparable man of integrity to inspire them to greatness since Paterno passed?

No? I didn't think so.

You can see the lack of integrity and moral principles in our society every day and it sickens me. I could go on in detail but it is inappropriate for this forum.

If more people acted like Joe, we'd be in a better place.

Sadly, you're probably right. It would take someone with great power, wealth, courage, and an unwaivering belief in Joe's legacy, to turn things around. Power and wealth are plentiful, but courage is always in short supply.

My hope is that those of us who admired and respected Paterno so much will continue to try to explain to others just WHY he was such a special person, and WHY he was treated so unfairly as a result of the Sandusky scandal. I think once my generation (the older Penn State generation) passes, what you say may be basically true --- but as long as we're still around his legacy will absolutely not be forgotten and he will be defended.

Yeah, my father.

I hear you. My dad was a much greater man than Joe, so it was not necessary for me to adopt a football coach as a surrogate father figure like many here have done.
You are so full of crap. The fact that my own father was a very fine man who I loved, does not in the slightest way impact my reverence for Coach Paterno, nor should it. Paterno stands on his own merits.

As long as we’re judging people here, what would your father say about your posting on this board using a name everyone knows, and is not even yours?

College football is not the same without Joe , he kept the bad coaches in check and now CFB is loaded with them, not only the coaches but the universities, and tv networks and their mouth pieces. He was satisfied with his salary, and was a joy to listen to on Thursday night radio for an hour.
Unfortunately he was the fall guy for the NCAA and is erased, edited, and forgotten by many but not me.

He would be too consumed with laughter to say anything. He would be all for putting a bug up the rear end of a coach worshiper, which I seem to have done with you quite effectively. It is obviously very irritating to you as you bring it up every time I post.

Then your father isn’t the man you think he is, sorry to say. Any man who raises a son who can’t stand on his own two feet is a failure, IMO.

I have to second your thought there LJ. Either the dad was a great man and the son was an imbecile who didn't learn squat, or dad wasn't half the man son thinks he is. There are no other possibilities here.

The seniors graduating this year were all about 11 years old when Joe passed. His 'true' legacy has not been known to students for some time now.

Whatever Sue, in her kind heart and love for the University, agreed to in the settlement must have provided that no demands or actions would be made by the family for recognition. I don't recall that exactly, but just feel that something likely would have been announced by now. I have no expectations that the University will ever do anything. The BOT, Alumni Association, Administration, the BIG10, NCAA and all the like who did not defend the University, or who came after Joe, and tarnished our reputations, not just as a University but as graduates, are 'dead' to me and have been. However, Joe lives on. His perspective on coaching or just on life, meant a lot to me and were influential in how I conducted myself over my career.

What I'd like to see is some who have been successful and supportive of Joe, e.g. his former players, look to find a public spot in State College, a prominent one, and acquire it for the purpose of erecting a statue to honor him.

I feel like funding support would come, if some would be willing to take this on. I know property near the University would be hard to come by and at a heavy price. Maybe some legacy property owners would help. Maybe something along Park.

Edit: I changed from a couple pics to this video. It's the Joe I will always remember....from 2009.
His address to the BOT after winning the NC was likely one of the things that put a target on his back. I wish I had the audio/video of that.

You have to remember his famous quote about two coaches the Jackies and Barry's . You won't see anyone today saying that.
And he kept them in check by making that remark ? Oh my So when He coached against Barry in the 85 Orange bowl that went out the door ? Uh wow Btw I am older than you and remember the comment Joe didn't keep bad coaches in check Oh god
