The rumor mill is saying y'all will be sporting the dreaded red bird mascot, striking fear into the hearts of tit mouses and june bugs everywhere.

the "standing in the Lyceum door" wing of their cigar boyz were pushing for the bird early. I guess because the rest of the choices sucked worse.

Now, if by "proper" people you mean the race baiters, well, then I have no idea about that.

that is absolutely stupid. It has no connection whatsoever. A mockingbird would make more sense than a cardinal. A cardinal would just be saying, "we have no idea what to do so we will close our eyes, open a book with mascots listed in it, and point."

seriously? I don't care if we have a giant ***** painted to resemble Sylvester Croom. Mascots are for women, children and homosexuals. No offense.

And all the fried pork chops and kibbles out there quiver in fear of the English bulldog.

Actually, the cardinal does have a connection to Ole Miss.

Here is a brief article: http://mississippi.scout.com/2/879130.html

The Cardinal Club was an old student spirit club or something like that, and they have apparently brought it back.

I don't know why this thread has come up though, because the cardinal wasn't even one of the five finalists for our mascot search, unless I'm completely missing something with this thread.

I just assumed that it was an arbitrary pick. I overheard Matt Wyatt talking about this a couple of weeks ago. He thought using a revolutionary army (circa 1776) mascot would be good. They were considered "Rebels" by the English in the 1770's.

of course, if any of the left wings, and everyone who is easily offended would do their homework they would find out that slavery existed under our current flag as well.....

The bigger question is if it ends up being the Cardinal do they abandon HarvardCrimson for Cardinal Red? I just don't think "Stanford of the South" has the same ring to it.</p>

I realize it's their official color, but the red they use in application is nowhere near their "official" color or Cardinal Red for that matter...

The official Ole Miss script might be close to Harvard Crimson, but it usually looks pretty damn bright red to me.

Or, am I imagining things?

Here is my comparison:

Ole Miss Red (via jersey):

Harvard Crimson:

Or, it could be Harvard just misapplying the color...here is their jersey:

That looks significantly different to me.
