A lot to gripe about this year, but Cupp's defense is the biggest disappoint to me. He's been worse than just 2 errors. Bad throws, slowed release, missed tag, etc, etc. He was awful this past weekend.

Tells the tale... hence why our non conference schedule is a joke.

Half the starting lineup cant even matchup... and if the wind wasnt blowing out Reese would be hitting in the 100s as well.

I watch these games and State consistently bring in pitchers with low ERA's, good walks to strikeout ratio guys, I see all the batting averages are really high, but they just can't seem to get good pitching when they need it or many time a timely hit, to hold on to leads and win.

Biggest surprise here is for all the hell he's taken, Hunter Hines is batting .348. Second biggest is we have absolutely no one other than Ace Reece that is producing runs. He's driven in 11 of our 26 runs. That's an insanely high percentage. And pitching is a disaster once you get past Pico and a couple of relievers.

That is why we are where we are. When you have so much more talent than your opponent doing dumb stuff does not hurt you but when you play a more evenly matched opponent the finer points of the game can make or break you and we are so bad at this that we are 1-5 against two opponents we actually matched up well with. We out hit OU in every game but committed 8 errors to their 2. Swiped 2 bases to their 14. I don't know how many times we left RISP on base. either by K or hit into a DP. Conversely we screwed up on two easy DPs in game 3 alone by dropping a thrown ball and throwing wide to FB that cost us runs. We have some talent but do not have a good baseball team.

It is because Hunter has long streaks where he is just a black hole in the middle of the line-up. He also swings and misses a lot and has probably had twice the number of RISP opportunities than anyone else on the team with just 3 RBI in league play.

I want to say Hines figured it out Saturday and has turned a corner. He was getting hits, not just K's and long outs.

I really hope this is the case. I've been as harsh a critic of his as any, but I want nothing less than for him to succeed.

this is an easy stat to look up... he doesnt even lead the team in at-bats with RISP... and agree... i wouldnt hit in him the middle of the order, let alone behind sullivan... but he was good and has been good enough to assure Sullivan has been pitched to. Remember Texas chose to attack sullivan with a lefty on the mound instead of walking him to set up the L vs L to hines.... says a lot.

Basically we have 2 guys that have started every game in conference play and played up to standards.. Hines and Sullivan. Everyone else is getting exposed. Reese and Chance both need to be a lot better.. and dont get me started on the guys at the bottom of the order.... we wasted at-bats in the non conference letting guys like Downs think they are good..... much like we did by letting simmons think he was going to be good enough to help the staff.

Yep. .348 for him is 4 hitless games in a row and then 2 where he gets a hit every time.

It all starts at the top on who is running the program. We can do better.

Hungate, Davis, and McPherson were thought to be 3 of our top 6 pitchers.

SEC teams are currently hitting .405 against them. They’ve given up 10 earned runs in 7.1 innings pitched. Along with 17 hits and 9 BBs for a WHIP of 3.55.

That’s 2023 level pitching statistics. From guys we planned to rely on.

What’s worse… two of these are primarily sinker ballers. Pitching to contact with a defense that is putrid behind them. Doesn’t help.
