If we are lucky enough to win our regional what is your confidence level on this team if we are matched up at the likes of North Carolina, Virginia, Cal State Fullerton, etc... I do not like our odds at all and the main reason is "Starting Pitching". All of these national seeds we have a chance to be paired with have stellar starting pitching and very good to great bull pen's.

UNC is better than Fullerton. I would rather end up out west than at an ACC school.

How about waiting until the pairings are announced before expecting our imminent defeat? We have our best overall record since 1989 against an easy top 10 SOS and you are seriously talking about when you expect us to get put out instead of just being excited about our opportunity to earn our way back to Omaha? Only MSU fans would consider Omaha impossible because we just got blown out by the best regular season SEC team ever in a meaningless Hoover game -- the only single team we played all year and didn't defeat.

All current projections I've seen have us matched up with NC State -- a team that is 29th in WHIP(we are 13th) and 41st in ERA(we are 10th) -- while being 85th in Batting avg(we are 45th) and are 85th in OB%(we are 20th). So, no, I don't consider it imminent we are going to get destroyed by a(likely) overrated ACC team, most of which are exposed by the SEC every single postseason. Hence why they haven't actually won a baseball title since the 50s -- and the SEC has won 9 of the last 23 national titles.

it was a simple discussion question

looks like yours is pretty high which is great. Obviously I want to see us in Omaha but our starters are going to need to get to a different level over the next two weeks.

Nah -- my preseason expectations are already met, which was to host a regional. Setting expectations in the postseason(in the short term) is almost impossible to do with any degree of accuracy(especially when we don't even know our path yet) -- or to adequately measure how good seasons are. I expect us to make a bunch of good postseason runs in Cohen's tenure -- but I don't allow "this has to be the year" thinking to creep in with the potential to destroy my thoughts on what is/was a very good season, since I know how volatile baseball postseasons can be. As long as we don't become consistent underperformers, I'm happy...

We haven't given up a lot of runs this year in conference play. The question is can we get hot at the plate in the regionals.

I think our team is confident as long as its not vandy. My guess we get paired with FSU or ncstate. The key is we don't qanat Lamar as the 4

I doubt we can win a road super regional against any of the 8 national seeds. If we win our home regional (which we should be able to do), this is a very successful season. The fact we're even hosting a regional for the 1st time in 10 years, and only the 4th time in 20 years, is a big accomplishment.

I've just

got no confidence in this team. I mean 43 wins with one of the toughest SOS in the league, just a bunch of lucky games.

I think we can beat several of those national seeds on the road. I'd rather avoid a few of them, but I think we can beat them...

Statistically, 1-2 national seeds always lose their regionals(and an additional 1-2 lose their super regionals). Matching us up against NC State and/or FSU gives us a pretty good chance of those teams getting upset in a regional and us getting a home Super Regional as well.

That said, I'm with you. In terms of overall regular season resume'(RPI, SOS, W/L), this is currently our best team since 1989. We are guaranteed to lose less than 20 unless we make a trip back to Omaha as well...for the first time since 89...

I'd knock that down to 4. Our bullpen is good enough and deep enough that I really don't want our starters going any longer than that unless they're just on fire that day.

Exactly. The postseason is just too unpredictable. It can work for you (07, 11, 81) or against you (84, 89, even 83 if you count that losing to Tennessee in the SECT cost us a regional instead of sending us to Texas). I fully expect us to win our regional and it will be a big disappointment if we don't. But just hosting one shows that the program is on the right track. We've still got a ways to go to get where we should be, but we're getting there.

Baseball parody makes expecting to win a four team regional difficult. It also means winning a three game series against any national seed on the road Is very doable, especially with Ross Mitchell coming ot of the pen. Question is, can we get that hit with runners in scoring position?

This

My confidence isn't that high. Our bats just are not good enough against good-great pitching. Which is what we will see most of the post season.

But if somehow our hitters suddenly become decent hitters in the next week or two combined with solid efforts from our starting pitchers and bullpen, then I like our super regional chances.
