Doctors confirmed that the mass removed from Nick Bell's head was indeed a form of skin cancer. Related to a lesion that he had removed some 2 years ago.

If I read this release correctly, the "mass" was ON the brain. Further treatment is prescribed.

Doctors hope that he will play football again after treatments.

(I think we all knew after we heard no lab reports after 3 or 4 days post surgery, that the new was not good.)

Merkel Cell Carcinoma? Melanoma? Both are usually diagnosed in older folks, not 20 year old college students. Maybe perineural spread of squamous cell carcinoma?

The neurosurgeon says Nick may be able to play football again, so I assume it is some really weird but low grade cancer. Rules of the board be darned, continued prayers are being sent.

cancer. If it has not spread from the leison area and the brain it sounds like he may have a good shot even though it is characterized as a rare and aggressive cancer. Here is hoping and praying Nick gets a good report on the staging.

and after the tests were done the Dr. is still talking about being hopeful that he can play football again (not that that's all that important right now, but I figure if they're hopeful that he can play again it's a pretty good sign that he's got a real good chance to beat this).

lucky he was involved with football and under good medical care when all this went down otherwise he might still be walking around with a headache with no idea of his situation.
