Team looked much better fundamentally and played with emotion.

We won't know until the Vandy game if we have really turned the corner.

Perspective: Troy beat NMSU 52-6 today.

Can we really improve that much in one week? If so, wth was going on?

Or is USCjr really bad and we made a step in the right direction?

Either way, we should enjoy the win tonight.

Many seem to think that this nail biter victory vs a bad team excuses the rest of the season.

I still say 4 wins is not a staff keeper but Snell, Johnson, Ware, Jones, Boom, & both lines showed promise that we still have a shot.

It is a good win and we'll take it. I believe as much of it is that USC just didn't have anyone that could hurt us. I'm still skeptical that the D really got better but I guess we'll see. I believe USC was just a team that didn't have any weapons to hit us with. They couldn't throw the ball and nobody on that team was a competent running threat. Put a typical SEC back on their roster and we probably don't come out of it so well.

USC is not a particularly bad team. They are obviously not a good team, but, they are well-coached (believe it or not). This is a win that we should have gotten, but, if we play like we do in the first three games, we get pounded. Alabama is the next game, and we are obviously going to get spanked, but let's see if we can keep it from being completely ridiculous. Then, Vandy is the next "must win"- have to get that one.

As in YOU just signed up and feel compelled to chastise everyone?

That's inexperience.

This is year 4 and we should be much better than we have played in every game, including tonight.

Hopefully we can still get Vandy, Missou, and Miss State.

SCAR is not a good team, but gotta give credit where credit is due. The defense came prepared to play tonight and that's obviously an improvement over the last 3 games. We just need to survive the Alabama game and then play well again after that.

They had a good running back. Our D played better.

Their QB was not good though, neither was their OC.

As long as teams don't try to rush it down our throats we will be better off.

This was Spurriesque tonight passing on 1st downs and putting their O in 2nd and long continuously.

Regretfully, Saban won't make that mistake.

I just hope he gives many players a lot of reps this week. A lot of reps = a lot of mistakes that can be coached up.

I only watched from the mid 3QTR to the end. What I saw was a garden variety SEC win. Timely offense with a solid running game. Passable Defense. No crazy maneuvers by the coach and a victory formation at the end. Don't know how good we are (probably not very good), but at least we gave ourselves a chance to win in the 4th and closed this one out. Congratulations CMS. GBB!

We won a game we should win. Ill give congrats to Stoops when he can beat someone other thsn USCjr or Vandy. In year 4 we shouldnt be congratulating him for these wins vs pretty bad teams. Congrats to the team though. They actually fought. This USCjr team wont beat another SEC team. It was impressive when he beat 7-6 USC. In year 4 beating a team who is going to win 3 or 4 games is no longer impressive. The win was great for our players though. Props to them.

I think the increased blitzing helped keep the D aggressive. It is worth risking big plays to avoid having them on the field 75% of the game.

Mississippi State and Missouri will be the games that will tell the story. Vandy is no better than SC. Mason and Muschamp are peas from the same pod: defensive masterminds and offensively challenged.

One bad SEC team at a time...

Be great if we could hold our own against one that isn't struggling.

Any win is a good win. I have no idea what's going to happen the rest of the year. Vandy is still going to be tough bc BAMA is going to beat on us for 4Q and how healthy we are will matter.
I think Mizzou on The road is a toss up. That leaves Austin Peay. Which means we have the possibility of 5 wins if everything goes right or 3 wins if everything goes wrong. UK will likely get 4 wins and that justifies another year for Mark Stoops for Mitch and company.

4 wins just doesn't do it for me.

Austin Peay, NMSU (gave up 42pts and 500 yards), the worst USCjr team in a decade and a bad Vandy team is not progress.

Should have been 6 last year, no way we should be regressing like we have been the first 3 games in the 4th year.

I'd say 5 is the bare minimum with obvious signs of improvement as the season goes along. (And only because our AD will definitely be more than ok with 5)

A win is a win. What I saw from the defense tonight gives me some hope.

I liked most of what I saw from the Oline. Young took some lumps but man that kid is going to be really good. he is the type that will get beat and learn quickly how to prevent the next time around.

Loved how Gran ran Boom for 3 quarters and then threw in a fresh Snell who just pounded SC into submission. I compared him to Pinner a few weeks ago. He is better than Artose was as a Freshman and its not close. That kid (if he stays healthy) will be playing on Sundays.

The big question is can they sustain this level the rest of the season? Bama is going to throw uppercuts all game long next week. Will they fold or do their best to take the punches? Not expecting a win but expect to see them at least fight.

As for the rest of the season, we shall see. The offense will need to add wrinkles because teams are going to start teeing off on the run game and dare Johnson to throw over them. Gran is a legit OC and will figure it out. Do what works, but I would really like to see Timmons be used more and Badet get more touches. The passing game is going to have to open up more to keep the running game going.

Four wins does not justify keeping Mark Stoops. If it take the fans and threats of losing his job for him to coach - then he needs to coach every week! I will give credit to Stoops for getting involved more in the defense - which is what he told everyone he was going to do - but my question is this- why did it take 4 years to do this?

Go Big Blue!

- USC isn't good...but they tried the right gameplan...heavy run at UK...and couldn't do it. They ran it 35 times and passed it 30 times (and alot of those passes were to the flats). UK bowed up and handled thier run game.
- UK is running basically a 4-3 scheme...have benched Elam and getting more production from Pringle/Middleton/Bell, etc.. than they were from the 3-4 scheme. Also Laster is in for Kobie Walker and better production. Good job coaches adjusting to what wasn't going to work.
- Mike Edwards has come along way from those first 2 games...good job Mike!
- Gran is not wasting time like Dawson did with all those RBs (Boom/Horton/JoJo sharing)...now it's Boom and Snell when they're worn down. Best 2 RB are getting the ball.
- Having a QB that will keep it on read option is a breath of fresh air...why we ran read option with Towles/Barker was goofy if they were never going to keep it
- Dropping so much of play book trying to get the ball to Dorian Baker (i.e. Dawson's stupid plan) and going to RB, Conrad, Badet, Juice is a way better idea. More double TE sets is helping a still woeful Oline at protecting the QB.

If anything else...not imploding the entire season gives us hope to keep a solid class we have in Bohanna, King, Ajan, Richardson, Hoskins....which are kids we need for Stoops or the next UK coach in the next 4 years.

Those of you that break down these games, what was it that UK did differently on defense last night. Denzil Ware said they didn't do much differently schematically, so what made the difference? Obviously, getting more pressure on the QB is key, but that seems like a fundamental strategy to me. I guess what I'm really wondering, can we sustain that type of effort every week? Thoughts?

Big W but he still made some bonehead coaching moves. I was impressed with O-Line in second half. Kentucky line said we are going to run right down your throat try and stop us. Anyone doubting Snell as a Stud back well There doubts about that should be squashed. Back to Stoops and still can't understand some of the things he does. I will give him credit D played with the most passion by far I seen all year. Some of the 3rd and short defensive schemes he had just had my mind boggled though.

We were so piss poor on fundamentals just last week. And our fundamentals were maybe the best of the stoops era tonight. That drastic of a change in one week makes me think that something was changed.
What I hope is the first half against NM was due to Stoops and players not being familiar with his way of calling and him getting back into the groove of calling plays from the sideline. When they came out the second half and he had had a chance to fix somethings hey looked much better. Couple that with last night and how they looked to me shows hat improvement has been made.

Goal for Bama: Keep everyone healthy and put a couple points on the board for confidence.

I know USC is bad this year, but I'm still enjoying the win. I agree we won't learn much against Bama next week. I think we beat Vandy if our defense repeats the effort used against the Gamecocks. The Dores won't be able to stop the thunder and lightening combination of Snell and Boom.

I think it is a given that we really should be 3-1, but I am excited about the apparent conversion of the D. Don't know who is responsible, but obviously marked improvement.

Still see us as a dog in most of the remaining games, but with Snell, Boom, Johnson, and this improved D, we may all get a pleasant surprise.

Interesting to see how the majority of the board members show positive, with a few obvious (and expected) exceptions.

Happy for Stoops who I think is probably a genuinely good guy and does care. Still think he is probably in over his head but hoping to be wrong. If he really has taken over the play calling it seems to be time to cut Elliott loose. I think most of us as fans just want to see disciplined teams with fight which unfortunately has been few and far between so far. Hate that he and his family has to endure the rumors if not true. Still made the inexplicable time out call when we had the sneak for the clinching first down. We are not good enough obviously to make those kind of
mistakes. Those kind of mistakes have to end. Most happy for the kids who played their asses off.

A win is a win. Vandy is not as good as South Carolina. South Carolina is not as good as Southern Miss. Progress was made on the defense. Can it be maintained against better competition? I hope so. There were still too many mistakes, turnovers, blown assignments. The best news of the day came in performances of Denzel Ware, Jordan Jones, Alvonte Bell, Derrick Baity, Landon Young, Logan Stenberg, Grant McKinness. Special teams have played well. But you have to be concerned about pass protection by our offensive line and blown assignments in our secondary. All along, I have said this is a 4-5 win team, and I haven't changed my mind.

Not disrespecting. Have you ever been a college football player or coach? Just like to know,
.No but I have watched plenty of games in my life and I have common sense. Stoops isnt to bright sometimes , LOL well alot of times! I think its funny everyone is claiming him to be the next coming OF Bill Belichik beating USCjr 17-10.
