Congrats to the players. They are happy, I'm happy. Happy for players, students, and fans.

I need some help understanding some coaching decisions.

1- why throw two straight times on 1st & goal on 4? (Tommy int on 2nd one)

2-when you are averaging 6.5 yds per rush (through most of game) why throw it on 2nd and 4? Happened 8 times threw it everytime after gaining 6 on 1st.

3- why go for 2 when they did?

4- why lining up in shotgun and have Newby running it inside the 4yd line with less than 2 minutes, when you have had Cross killing it?

5-why scwib kick it which gave them great field postion? kick it out of the endzone!

Don't get me wrong I am happy for the players, students, & fans but too me it seems the players won in spite of coaches.

1. Didn't have to throw there, the screen on 1st down got us in trouble. TA should have thrown it away on 2nd down.

2. For better or worse they want to be "balanced". Some of our better pass plays were play action after successful runs.

3. I didn't like it that early, but I think the "book" says start going for 2 to make it a on score game in the 4th.

4. We were in no huddle flying down the field and got stuck with Newby in. Had to call a TO to get him out.

5. We hadn't been kicking it out all night, but I agree should have kicked it deep.

Good points to discuss another time. Now is the time to soak in a big victory.

#5: All teams squib kick it in that situation. I have no idea why they don't kick it out of the endzone though if their kicker has the leg.

Only reason I can think is that it burns more time off the clock, but only 3-4 seconds get burned on a squib kick. Not worth the 15 or so yards imo.

But again, majorty of teams squib kick in a situation like ours.

1- I think we thought we would catch them offguard. I dont have a big problem with the calls but have HUGE problems with the execution. Also concerned about the decision to run up the middle 2 times at the end of the game with clock running. But we won....

2 We wanted balance. We also liked the looks on 2nd and short and thought it would keep them offguard. Do not necessarily have an issue with it. And we won....

3-- I thought it was too early to chase points at the time and almost was proven right when the 2 extra points after two failed conversions would have made it a 3 point game with MSU playing to tie. But we won....

4- I dont have a problem in the gun/pistol because quick penetration could have blown up handoffs under center and it gives more appearance of a run/pass option. Keeping Newby in was getting MSU with a number of opportunities when they could not substitute. I was fine with Newby or Cross. Running up the middle there surprised me (See #1). But we won.....

5- I had no problem with the squib kick to burn precious seconds off. Riley said it (and was right) there was a hole back there that Brown could have laid the ball into and run some time off. Once again the execution was not fabulous as the ball came off the tee flat and went straight to the MSU player (I will say it was close to a late hit when their guy went down). But we stepped up and won.....
