That's my biggest pet peeve about football broadcasts. The TV people will drag their families into it like anyone cares. I'm glad Ian Johnson graduated so I don't have to hear them interview his wife and talk about "the marriage proposal that capped of the Fiesta Bowl." To me it was the statue of Liberty play, until Ian Johnson ruined the best game I have ever seen with a marriage proposal. All it does is encourage Little League parents to act like morons, so that they can have their fifteen minutes of fame. See Kevin Smith's Mom last year as exhibit A.
My favorite one of all time was Jeff Bower's last game in the Papajohns Bowl after he had been fired and they had his family on the sideline looking distraught. "Well, we really don't know where we're going to go. (My thought- no where. Maybe Collins HS is looking for a new coach) It will be weird having to pull for someone else other than Southen Miss. (My thought- Don't worry. You won't have to). Then the announcers talked about how it was a "controversial decision" that divided the fanbase, and they show the one woman in the stands with a "Thanks Jeff!" sign from 14 different angles to make it look like there are a lot of people wanting him to stay.
I don't know why they choose to latch onto things like that at random, and that's why I was surprised that they didn't rake us over the coals for firing Croom. Maybe they didn't because they actually saw him coach. I don't know.
And the female fans that watch football don't care about that crap either. If they are watching the game, they're watching to see the game and not to see who's Mom they get to meet in the stands.
