Well rounded game with great attitude as a traditional two guard 6’5”. Shoots well off the bounce and catch. Has long lanky body with above average strength and development for an 18 yo (think Romeo physique with better definition).

Been taking over more ball handling recently and has shown adequate handle at the HS level. Willing passer to get teammates involved rather than volume shooter. Rumor is Mack will tag him at the point next year which is not his natural position, but he’s shown all the tools necessary to be a dynamic 1 or 2 guard at the next level. I think he’s a winner and will be a key player next year and will run the point for us. Has all the intangibles from attitude to size and a growing skill set. High ceiling.

The AP writers voted this UK commit as player of the year despite the fact that he only played 13 games before a season ending injury. I’m sure he is an amazing player but I’m not sure how you can be player of the year when playing in less than half the games.

Hope you are correct, but think you’re not. I discussed Johnson with a friend of mine who coaches just yesterday. The guy has a good eye and he doubts that Johnson transitions to PG next year. I’ve never seen him play. I know he’s played some point at Trinity but ACC from 7th region is a helluva jump.

Saw some clips of one of their regional games recently, he exploded for two-hand thunder dunks in two plays, impressive & athletic.

Just saw some state tourney clips from this afternoon. Johnson has great size, big & strong looking dude for a guard.

Went to middle school with Dave we were actually partners on a few projects. That’s besides the point though, he’s been a point guard his whole life on the offensive side of the ball.

Hope you’re correct, but I’ll trust my friend who is a college coach and recruits this area. I specifically asked him about Johnson’s ability to step in and play the point next year. He thinks that is quite a stretch. He does like David’s game and thinks he will do well here.

Again, would love to see him take that on and succeed. I think that if we find a guy to run the show we’re a top 10 (or possibly better) team next season. I can’t see Perry doing it consistently enough to hang onto the job, we need someone to step up!

Can’t knock you on that and I couldn’t agree more.

I think, ideally, the team would excel with interchangeable parts, and that would include the guards. I see Perry and Johnson both fitting that mold of combo guard. Perry needs to keep working on the handles. Johnson looks like he is already there in that regard.

Having an abundance of guards that can handle the ball is key.It affords CM many more options with the rotations...something he really doesn't have this season.

Congrats to David Johnson for an outstanding season, and people who know, know. He'll do fine next year regardless if he is the starting PG or is coming off the bench.

I trust coach Mack to do his job and if he feels this team needs a grad transfer to be at the point next year (like this year) then OK. If he feels Perry and Johnson can handle it, then OK. Not worried about it at all.

Go CARDS!!!

Coach Mack said he wanted Johnson and Nickleberry to both hsve ability to handle the ball. I assume he has also said that about Darrius. His summer assignment will be ball handling skills.
