1- All you "insiders" with your "sources".. it's pretty sad when Gene makes you look like an idiot.... It's funny to look at the last five or six pages of this board and how many people said they had a "source" that told him it was DONE.

2- To all the wonderful bulldog message board posters that couldn't wait for anything official to be released go to the BSU messageboard to talk smack.. you (and unfortunately all the rest of us MSU posters) now look like a giant douche bag.

3- To the Internet wizards that made sure to spread your BS rumors as far as you could so that instead of letting Byrne talk with Petersen confidentially over the weekend, in case there actually was any momentum, Petersen had to make a definate decision today to kill the increasing rumors and is now officially out of the picture for good. And maybe he was never in the picture, who knows, but today didn't help.

There will be major dissapointment now no matter who the new coach is and that just isn't fair to the new coach.

You guys were posting that he HAD ALREADY ACCEPTED IT .....he says he was never even offered... he never interviewed. period.

And no.. I don't believe them.. I don't believe that more than one or two people on this board have a contact that would know anything at all on this search and they wouldn't know whether he was going to accept an offer (that wasn't even made)... Coaches don't accept offers and hide it for 3-4 days..those people that said we were going to wait until Monday.. RIGHT!!! and give up a chance to start in with recruits (hell one of our old commits committed to OM today).. The SEC would never ask us to wait on that.

There had to be legs of some sort for this thing to spread like it did. I had dismissed every rumor, until this one....because a lot of people that usually don't just spout off on this site were hearing it was a 'done deal.' Not sure how so many people had 'inside' sources who were incorrect...It sounds like someone in the AD believed it was a 'done deal' and started talking to other AD employees and they started telling their friends and eventually it reached the Pack. If the source of the rumor is identified, I suggest a public flogging. Do I think that Petersen is completely out of the picture? No. It's not likely, but something crazy could happen and he could be announced as our HC. But from this point on, I'm not buying anything until Greg Byrne is standing on a podium with our new coach.

Anyway, my point is, under Petersen's statement, there is a post where a Boise TV station broke that MSU had offered Petersen the MSU job (all of the posts on that page are time-lined).

Then, about 3 hours later, Petersen releases a statement that directly contradicts what the TV station had reported.

That means either Petersen or the TV station is lying.

I'm not posting this to take up for all the idiots who have over-run this board recently.

But I am saying when you back up your "Petersen is coming to State" claim with apparent confirmation from a Boise TV station, then you can't really blame people for getting excited.

Frankly, I took most of this hullabaloo with a grain of salt although I would certainly be pleased with Petersen.

Veazey has reported many times that Neinas is known for his silence, and by many indications Greg Byrne may also be.

I don't know who it'll be so long it's someone who meets what is believed to be Byrne's criteria, and so I'm waiting.

If you bought into the info and believe he was coming then that is on you. It was always a long shot, but one that had to be taken. When the rumors starting spreading I got a little excited, but we are MSU. I won't buy that we can hire away a successful head coach until we actually do it. And, as Ronny stated, people far and wide were declaring that we were in negotiations. If you think this is all because of SPS then you are giving this board too much credit. After having a miserable season, it was great to see the excitement in the fan base. I read several boards and there wasn't any official source quoting MSU, so I assumed it was rumor.
