Due to my theft of passwords, I'm in like f'n Flynn on a UF premium board. Rumor posted that Matt Elam decommitted from FSU and has contacted the UF staff. In my opinion-huge. Why? A 5 star with probably a hundred offers apparently thinks the urban crier situation is stable. No, MFers, it's not a slam dunk, but we need any positive news we can get.

it means that Urban is coming back and I assume we need not worry about losing Mullen? Because no coach would ever sell a line of ******** for recruiting purposes....

I just don't believe Mullen is going to Florida after this season! I don't believe that Florida would want him. I believe that they would prefer a head coach that has proven to be more successful. If Mullen had 3 or 4 years and had taken us to a West title or at least had competed for it then I would be worried.

I don't believe Mullen is loyal to us anymore than Saban was loyal to LSU, I just don't think Florida wants him just yet.

A program that can have any coach it wants would pass on Peterson, Patterson, Riley, Muschamp, Schiano, etc. and hire Dan Mullen? After the next two years of success he is going to be hot as a potatoe, but now? Nope.

I meant that's what Urban is selling to Elam.. whether it's true and what effect it has or doesn't have on Mullen remain to be seen

He was on Finebaum yesterday and said that likely first choices were Stoops, Petersen, Petrino, Whittingham, and after that Mullen.

Mullen IS a strong candidate because he was Meyer's right arm for over 10 years and Meyer would likely have a BIG input on his successor. Mullen IS the logical choice to maintain continuity to the "Meyer legacy". Plus he does now have at least some head coaching experience. Does that mean Foley would actually offer him the job? Absolutely not, but to not acknowledge that Mullen would be given strong consideration is sticking your head in the sand especially if Meyer plans on hanging around the athletic department.

Whether florida would hire him now or not is not the point. ESPN is saying that he is a candidate and Houston Nutt and every other coach hits the recruiting trail telling recruits that he will not be here for very long. They hear it on espn and people are telling them this and we lose out on just three top priority recruits and the damage is done. It is magnified at MSU b/c we cant recruit like lsu, fla., bama, etc.

I was at my sister's house when we saw that Meyer was retiring. I told her then that the next coach at Florida would be either Peterson, Patterson or Willingham, but that if they all turned it down Mullen might be a candidate.

didn't think there was a chance either, but then I started to think about it. If Urban were to stay on in an adviser type role then there was the possibility that he would come back after a year or two. If that were to happen, it isn't really that far fetched that they would lure Mullen away to have him more or less acting as a puppet. Now whether or not Dan would still go having thought this could happen, is another thing. I just don't think it was that far fetched to say he was a candidate, especially knowing that Urban would probably be picking the person.

So after he decommitting from UF and committing to FSU he has now contacted the UF staff again? If so this guy makes Cam Newton look decisive.

This is the same Meyer that told Snead that they were recruiting Tebow strictly at LB. He's the biggest liar in the business.
That being said, I don't even think he knows what he's going to do at this point. I think he's going to try and come back but play it by ear. I definitely think he's going to be there next year, whether he's coaching or not. He's not going to resign right after NSD and have them go get a new coach at that time. That means his current staff is at least locked in for 2010, whether he comes back or not.
He may be trying to slow play it and come back in 2011, and just see what the staff can do without him. If he doesn't come back in August and Addazio does well, then he might come back or ask Foley if Addazio can be hired full time.
If Meyer's not back in August and Addazio flops, Urban will then have to say he's coming back full time or everyone is gone.</p>

for two HC jobs in two years at Ole Miss, I hope like hell that recruits are laughing at his silly *** if he trys to use the "Mullen is a shorttimer" pitch. The only place you will find the 'Mullen to Florida' discussion is on this message board.
