Louisville FOP President had sent an open letter to the community calling out "sensationalists, liars and race-baiters," threatening them with local, state or federal investigation if their claims bring harm to officers or the public."

He told the "sensationalists" they are on notice, and their ridiculous demands will no longer be met.

Open Letter

In Louisville, a Sudanese man was killed by a white officer. There is video. Dude is drunk, assaulted a woman, police were called, as he was walking the street. Then as the cop tries to assess the situation, the drunk guy runs at him with a flag pole. Cop shoots him. Its a pretty crazy video.

Okay, I was against the police in the Garner case and the Baltimore shooting, but this is absurd. If you run at a cop swinging a pole, you're gonna get shot.

Either stupid, on drugs or both.

I don't care how tilted your view of society is, making a race case out of that is one hell of a stretch.

I agree with every word that was written in that letter, but it seems like a strange thing to do. Is that common practice in other cities to write open letters like that?

My thoughts are that the contents of the letter are 100% correct. The number of individuals who rushed to to that shooting scene and jumped in front of reporters recorders, microphones, and TV cameras making irresponsible inflammatory comments was truly disgusting. Almost as though certain individuals WANTED Louisville to become Ferguson or Baltimore, they were flicking lit matches around hoping it landed into a pool of gasoline somewhere in the city and then enjoy the fire.

i get it, but think it was a bad idea to write that. the minute they kill an innocent unarmed person...that letter is going to be used as evidence of the "take no prisoners" approach the department is putting forth. seriously. its a legal and PR disaster. regardless of what i think about it being correct or not, fair or not, justified feelings or not. if i was mayor, id have a serious sit down and consider firing the person who wrote that.

Charging a cop while swinging a metal pole at him is clearly justification for shooting. These activists look like fools saying otherwise. I heard one of them saying that the officer should have used his knight stick to subdue the suspect.

That was a good shoot but it doesn't change the fact that the letter in the OP was written by a complete moron that needs to take off his batman underwear and stop sniffing mannuts at the gym.

yep, several supposed eyewitnesses said he did not swing the flagpole

disagree! He was defending his fellow officers. Something the media doesn't do.

I'm pro-shooting this guy.

Who is the FOP talking to? Did Christopher 2X or Mattie Jones make a statement?

I think some fellow drunks in Old Louisville sided with the dead guy but other than that I don't remember too much

I have zero problem with the cop shooting that guy, but I think the letter is a bit ridiculous and over the top.

A group of people resist freedom, safety, and the ability to live our lives happily and without fear? Okay, bud. Try not to choke yourself wrapping yourself so tightly in the flag.

I don't know who you are. I don't know what you want. If you are looking for ransom, I can tell you I don't have money. But what I do have are a very particular set of skills, skills I have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a nightmare for people like you. If you let my daughter go now, that'll be the end of it. I will not look for you, I will not pursue you. But if you don't, I will look for you, I will find you, and I will kill you.

<---- in favor of dude getting shot... at least in the leg/arm.
So, if your in a situation where you feel it is necessary to use possible lethal force, you're going to try to wing someone? LOL Good luck with that.

I saw them interview several blacks, none of them looked like drunks and they all said the cop shouldn't have killed the guy. One said shoot him in the leg. One said use taser. Others just said he shouldn't have been shot.

So, basically, even with video evidence, they are saying the cop was wrong.

You always shoot "center mass". You dont "wing" perps. If you have to shoot them in an appendage, it basically says lethal force wasnt necessary and you should have used another means in the first place.

This actually makes sense and answers a long standing area of my confusion when police fire upon someone. Great point.

Cincinnati cop shot today responding to a maniac wielding a shotgun. Pastors on scene to quell the growing, disgruntled crowd.

Dont resist arrest, kids.

And people claimed the criminal was just a harmless ole drunk....when in fact had been accused of assault numerous times

I don't think some of you are familiar with the element around Old Louisville.

Most of the people interviewed are the homeless and mental cases that wander around the area.

A little clarification.
1. Nobody knew there was video evidence until later. All of the eye witnesses, on the record, stated that the victim never had a pole, never picked up a pole and certainly never swung a pole.
Then the video came out, making the community wonder why all the eye witnesses blatantly lied.

2. Even after the video surfaced, a significant part of the city believed he used excessive force, targeted him because of race etc etc. These people were interviewed on TV stations, quoted in the paper etc etc.

The letter wasn't just a random rant. There was substance behind it. I can see his point.
And just FYI, he actually hit the officer so hard with it he broke it.
Also, the guy has a long history of assault, resisting, disorderly etc. Good riddance imho.

Why does the community always choose to get behind the absolute worst examples of "police brutality" possible? There is no waiting until all the facts come out before choosing sides any more. It makes everyone else think of you as the boy who cried wolf one to many times and eventually everyone else besides you will stop giving an ish. jmo

As with all things politics, there are 2 teams and just about everyone has picked a side, and you have to support your team even in those cases where you should be embarrassed to do so....

Rack'em...and the guy had JUST COME from assaulting a female.

It's pretty simple: Attack a police officer, prepare to get shot. :100points:

It is so cool and pop culture to trash the police for every incident in this country these days. Wish the usual suspects who do so nationally would say a kind word about how the police responded to the horror at the South Carolina church.

Reportedly cops quickly responded to the scene and provided comfort and security. And after a region-wide search police in NC nabbed the bastard less than 12 hrs later, alive and intact to face justice.

I've got to stop drinking. I slept through the Baltimore shooting.

Was it work related?

The cop show restraint: he didn't empty the gun. Once the idiot was disabled the officer stopped shooting.
This letter should get whomever wrote it fired. Freedom if speech is a fairly accepted practice 'round here.

I have family members who are so far left they make Bernie Sanders look conservative. They went to private high schools and then off to Ivy League Schools, so they weren't exactly around a diverse crowd. They basically think that all cops are dirty, and nobody, other than well-to-do white males commit any crimes. They are all over this letter on social media, and think it's the biggest outrage since MLK was killed.

My point is, there seems to be a very loud minority of people who are not grounded in reality pushing this outrage against cops. The unfortunate thing is the media runs with it.

IMO, communities in general don't. In many cases it's a white cop being maligned by the few, vocal racists in a community. They just want to retaliate in any way they can against the "system" for it's that system, represented by cops that is responsible for their lot in life.
