This is a view from a side street across University Drive, the main road through the cotton district. When its warm this whole area is full on friday and saturday nights, especially if you're a freshmen hell they'll let anyone drink at most of these bars (maybe not as much Bin612 some nights). Anyways just gives you a small idea of the area, very small idea. Oh and the apts labeled here or retardedly expensive so i wouldnt advise living in them, but across the skreet back behind all those buildings are dozens of apt's where somewhere there is usually a party going on and someones having a good time. Again this is a very limited view of the district, you really have to see it for yourself, and dont make your decision unless you see it on a weekend when everyones in town (ala super bulldog weekend)</p>

Hope this helps kimosabe

I lived in the dorms, Highlands for two years and the Cotton District for 2 1/2 years and I can tell you the Cotton District is the place to live. The number one thing people are forgeting is the night route that picks you up and takes you down town, then takes you home from the bar and drops you off right where the above picture was taken. No DUI's, get to a late night fast, always drunk females on board and did I mention no DUI's?

You can ride a bike to class, can walk to 6 - 8 restaurants and always find interesting foot traffic. The bars are not the biggest or the best but the convenience of them and the location can not be beat.

BTW I think you have to buy an Affliction shirt to live in the Highlands now.

look, starkville may be small, but you will just as good, if not better, of an experience here as you would anywhere else. There is your typical bars, restaraunts, and things to do. I have NEVER had a problem getting into any sporting event that mississippi state has ever had at home. You would be coming at the best time ever with Mullen, Cohen, and Stans + the ninja (Byrne) on staff. We are going to be in good shape over the next few years in athletics, and since that is your only concern, rest easily you will enjoy your time watching the dawgs. Our campus is beautiful as well, and the faculty for the most part is great. Don't listen to the rumors that starkville is a bad place to be.
That's always a plus.

That's assuming you make good grades and test well. Past that, though, admissions and scholarships makes no @@!*!## sense. It's a crap shoot.

the cotton district is, i hate to say this, but similar to the strip in t-town. it's not as big and prominent, but it's getting that way and has it own unique culture. downtown is left to be to desired, so i wouldn't say that is what makes starkville. however, the cotton district is. maybe if we could get another bar/restaurant, a retail store or two, and maybe even a late night grill, that would make the cotton district the"best kept secret" in the sec. we just have to give starkville time. it's growing at the appropriate rate, and so is state. if we grew to fast, the campus and the city wouldn't be ready for it. like i said, just give it time. it's grown significantly since i've started here, and thankfully i'm gonna be here for longgg time. so i can't wait to see what else this administration and local government will do.

sincerely yours,

your local cotton district bartender(ptolemy's taproom),
