The SEC is adding only Texas A&M instead of two teams because Auburn is being death penaltied. When Auburn returns in 2013 or 2014, another team will be added to get to 14.

Mike Slive is trying to keep his job, so he's bringing in schools whose ADs and Presidents would be indebted to him (by extending them an offer).

...It would free up some space in the SEC West. To expand to 16 teams, you'd take Texas A&M, Rice, TCU, and SMU. These teams would open up the SEC to markets in the Dallas-Ft. Worth and Houston areas. Plus, Rice and SMU would be easy wins. <div>
