Construction on campus..

We all know about the stadium expansion but there is a lot of construction going on around campus.

Lee hall is still getting renovated.. Seems like they've been working on that forever.

The new parking garage/classrooms is starting to make way. I saw a rendering and it looks like only 2 stories of parking. That doesn't seem like enough parking for our parking problem.

They just tore down the tennis courts by the old intramural fields to build a new cafeteria/restaurant. I really don't know much about that, but I didn't think we needed another cafeteria.

Also, they just gated off that meter parking by the union. I have no idea what the hell try are doing there.

The chi o house is getting an expansion if anyone cares about that (where you sorostitutes at?!)

Along with the cotton mill project breaking ground tomorrow there is a lot of upgrades going on now. Also the Dudy noble expansion talks. It seems like we are making huge strides, but I have no idea how we are funding all this.

ETA: they're starting to put panels on the upper level of the NEZ. Those should go up quick

The last plans I saw called for new tennis courts over by the IM fields. And they are supposed to be adding at least 2 more IM fields. Who knows when that happens, though.

With all the new dorms on the south side of campus, a cafeteria the size of the one in the Templeton makes sense over there. Most students didn't know non-athletes could use the one in the Templeton when I was there, so we ate there almost every night. The food was generally better although there was less selection.

I heard the parking garage will only hold 180-something cars. I have no idea how accurate that is but if that's true, I don't see how in hell it's worth building. I'm sure space could be found around campus here and there enough for 180 parking spots.

it's no longer a parking garage............

and hasn't been for a couple of years now. It's a classroom building with some additional parking thrown in.

The new tennis courts to replace the old ones are completed. They are adjacent to the intramural softball fields on south farm.

Can we do something with the old intramural fields? That could be an extra 500 parking spots for gam day, even half of it would help. That thing is NEVER completely full

We've got plenty of green spaces.. Those fields are terrible... Filled with weeds and no one ever uses it

The tennis courts were being built over by the IM fields last semester and looked just about finished. So I assume they're already finished with that.

ETA: didn't see someone already addressed that, only read a few posts down before I posted

Come on now you can't be that lazy. Seriously it amazes me people complain about parking at State. The longest you have to walk might be a mile and if you're a fatass and can't walk there are shuttles that run. The last thing I want to see on our campus is more surface parking lots that are used 3 months out of the year.

See below for what was proposed in the adopted campus master plan.

It could be greenery all the way to/from the football stadium. How awesome would that look?

Not there on a regular basis, but what I read was it will be a parking garage on bottom, probably some of it underground and classrooms on top.

Saw recently they are replacing the parking meters in the union area with new electronic meters that can take debit and credit cards and more quarters. Might be why that lot is closed off.

First, that would be awesome if it ever came to reality. Second, Both A&M and UT have large parking garages that you cannot tell are garages. The outside are designed to fit in as any other academic building. I'm surprised that MSU has not attempted this, or won't in the future.

There are many colleges around the country that have parking garages like this which would be awesome. Parking garages are the way to go instead of taking up valuable real estate with enormous surface parking lots that are eye sores. There is actually another parking garage proposed in the master plan if I remember correctly over around the McCarthy Gym.

That would be PHENOMENAL. There actually is a greenway proposed in the master plan that meanders through the center of campus that would essentially connect the industrial park and the south farm intramural fields via pedestrian path. Unfortunately I believe Dorman is going to stay and just receive a facade facelift...hopefully a very extensive one like the union received.

Looked at an article from last fall in the reflector about the new garage \classroom. About 150 paid parking spaces and three stories of auditorium style classrooms. The renderings of the building are impressive., styled after lee hall.

I had a class in Lee the semester before they started renovating and I'm not surprised it's taking this long. In the stairwells on each side, the glass panels in the windows were either cracked or completely broken. It was horrible. I remember one day in particular that it was windy and cold and it was coming straight through holes in the glass... It was 35 degrees inside the whole building that day.

In the classroom, moisture had soaked up in the plaster on the ceiling, so they dropped the ceiling 3 or 4 feet and put up those squares. Terrible.

Probably taking the longest, I believe they're adding an HVAC system and reinforcing the floors.

So it's clear why it has taken so long to rehab Lee .......................................................

The MFer is on the National Register of Historic Places. The entire project had to be approved by piece of **** pencil necked f'n bastards in Washington f'n DC. They lost at least 12 months waiting those f'n bastards to approve virtually every aspect of the rehab. Obviously George Bush's fault. To any of you piece of **** MFers that work for the f'n feds in DC, no offense.
