Well, now we wait. Personally, I think Cord could benefit by playing college baseball and maybe sneak into the first round after 3 years, but I don't think the Phillies would have taken him, in the 3rd round, without knowing he was gonna sign. Teams lose their allotted money, for that pick, if players don't sign. The Phillies don't want to waste a 3rd round pick.

After taxes this would be a tough call for a lot of folks. I tend to agree

with an earlier poster that the Phillies probably had a handshake agreement or they
wouldn't have wasted a 3rd round pick.

Whatever picks they don't sign in the top 10 rounds, they can use that money to allot to other players -- so not signing one isn't that big of a deal(if it works out like that). Depending on some factors, they can also get a compensation pick in next year's draft.

I think it will cost them alot more than the $600k to sign him...

Guy was never coming here.

Not to be a pessimist, but the kid is going to take the $600k and play ball. He'll do what Brandon Weedon did, worst case scenario.

Wrong Engie, they will take college seniors. You lose the money for players you don't sign. They will take a college senior, that has a 300,000 dollar slot, and pay him 10,000. He is gone, the Phillies can pay whatever it will take.

How do you know this? Pessimism for the sake of pessimism.

I don't know if he signs or not -- but what I do know is that this dollar figure is a LONGGGG way from the $$ figure that he consistently gave our football staff throughout the whole process for what it would take to sign him -- and a long way from the money his dad literally told a couple of us it would take to sign him back during his OV. So, we'll see.

Even with agreed amount, still hearing nothing is solid

until he signs, which he can wait until mid-July to do.

It's still like 99% that he's gone, but technically speaking, I'm curious when he's officially gone.
