per some blog referenced on the MSU 247 site. I say let him. Not sure why we don't do more of this. Worked out well with LSU in 2009 with Chad Jones and Jared Mitchell. Golson will probably end up being a good one for Ole Miss too. With Sandberg, it's not like it's a hindrance for either sport.....he's apparently a damn good player at both and both coaches should be so lucky to have him play for them.<div>
</div><div>That sevendust guy seems to think he's going pro regardless, but who is that guy anyway and what does he know? His record is about like Rosebowl's.</div>

There have been quotes from Sandberg saying his dream is to play in the MLB like his dad. I'm pretty sure baseball is his first passion and his draft stock is increasing rapidly. I'm not saying he's gone, but we are Mstate.<div>

7dust is hardly ever right. He just likes to act like he is in the know. With that being said, we better offer another QB in this class.

since he has football/baseball in the SEC to fallback on, he will do one of two things- he will get drafted very highly and get paid some big bucks OR he will fall down the draft ladder and end up at State. Instead of MLB having the leverage most of the time- this is a situation in which the player has the leverage and will control where he is drafted.

Look for him to get drafted high and sign to play MLB because teams cant afford not to sign a highly-rated draft pick now under the new rules

I'm not sure what we do at this point- but we dont have to sign a QB. We got a walk-on QB thats better than the one we signed in February now. People need to chill on the QB recruiting- if we have to use our 3rd string QB- we're going to lose anyway.

I want another QB just like everyone else for the future- but as history will tell you- getting a highly-rated QB from outside the state of Mississippi to come play at State or Mississippi is damn near impossible. Hell, even one of Archie's kids wouldnt play for Mississippi. I like the 3 we have now- and for the next 3-4 years, we look to be in better shape than normal at QB. Thats progress.

We just have to keep winning and getting to bowls- the perception will eventually change

....from the reports I've heard. And we haven't lost Sandberg yet - he's been our guy since the beginning, tops on the board, period. And it's not exactly easy to get yourself drafted in the MLB 1st round.<div>
</div><div>I haven't seen anyone complaining about our QB recruiting. I thought I saw on here where Tyson Lee's brother is coming through the ranks next year....need to sign him. I personally thought Tyson was a serviceable QB, especially for being 5'10".</div>

there are all kinds of whiners about QB recruiting.

The walk-on will be fine
I agree on Sandberg, just got to wait him out

We do have to sign a QB. We only have 2 scholarship QBs on our roster and 1 of them will be a SR next fall. We need to sign the backup plan if Sandburg does go the pro baseball route this year. And we don't need to wait until January to get him committed. We're in terrible shape depth-wise at that position. You're putting a lot of eggs in the baskets of 2 players who have never played a down of college football.

Russell will be a senior next year, and Dak is the only other scholarship QB on the roster. I don't care what offer the walk-on may or may not have had. You don't count on a walk-on to be your third string QB. (Hell, he would be our second string QB after Russell graduates if Sandberg doesn't make it to campus.)

We have to sign a QB in this class. We can't go into the 2013 season with Russell as a senior and Dak the only other QB on the roster. That is ridiculous to even suggest.

We have our starting QB for the next 4 years already on campus. We havent had 3 QB's this highly rated on campus at once in school history

I don't care what Dak or the walk-on were rated coming out of high school. You don't intentionally go into a season with a senior QB and only one QB on scholarship behind him. And I like Dak, but it is waaaaay to earlier to anoint him the savior at QB. QB recruiting is a crap shoot, and Dak hasn't even played a down yet. Besides, since Dak is a capable runner and will be used in the running game, we have to have someone to back him up.

We need to sign two QBs this year. I don't see how anyone can argue otherwise.

"we're in terrible shape depth-wise"- says who?

How good is SC's back-up QB? What are Auburn's 3rd team QB's stats to prove how much better off they are? How good is Tennessee at 3rd string QB- they lost to Kentucky last year when Kentucky played a WR at QB? If we're in terrible shape now- what do you call Tyson Lee and Chris Relf backing up Wes Carroll?????

"You're putting alot of eggs in the baskets of 2 players who have never played a down of college football"

You realize most of the SEC has back-ups that have never played a down of college football right? That includes the SEC's best- Bammer and LSU. Bammer's back-up from 2011 transferred. LSU is starting last season's 3rd string QB.

Get another qb now, so we don't have to wait till possibly 2015 to have a new body ready to go. It only makes sense to get a guy in here and get him conditioned as a redshirt, rather than push it back an additional year. The more competition in the squad, the better. The sooner the better also! On another note, will be extremely lucky if we get Cord.

He got his inside info from an article muthafrikkin' Jeremiah Short ran in a local newspaper this past Wednesday. Had a couple of quotes from Sandberg saying he would play baseball at state if given the opportunity and Sandberg was quoted as saying he would go pro if he was offered high enough in the first round and the money was right.

As opposed to theguy we sign that will have played a down of college football?

We don't have the roster spots to recruit a 4th string QB for 2013... Cordcan be #2A as soon as he steps on campus. Unless we find someone that's as good as him, we won't waste a scholarship. There's not a need. And if Mississippi State is down toit's 3rd string QB, it's lights out regardless. As long as we have another solid QB on campus by 2014, we're fine.

Why did no one offer him a scholarship? Rivals shows him with 3 stars and offers from Arkansas & South Alabama. Scout shows him with 2 stars and offers from Ark, USA, Vandy &1 other. It just seems funny to me that everyone thinks he'll be such a big improvement over the kid from Georgia when we offered the scholarship to the kid from Georgia when we could have had either.

having seen film on the guy from Georgia, it's not like it would take that much to be an improvement over the guy.

I would have been shocked if he ever started a SEC game unless it was because of injuries.

The thing is, you don't see it a whole lot anywhere because it's hard to play two sports in the SEC. Chad Jones was a set-up guy. Jared Mitchell was an outfielder, but I don't remember him playing much football at LSU other than in a reserve role.

Usually, a player ends up focusing on one or the other because splitting between the two can take away from both. Now, if Cord can do it- heck yeah.

The thing about Cord is he is rated the 23rd best high school player in the country. Odds are seven is right about this, because that translates out to the supplemental first round or second round. Personally, I think he will go pro.

because we were desperate. But we did at least give it to him instead of to the walkon, who apparently didn't get an actual scholarship offer from anybody.

he was a fallback option for UPig, but they ultimately didnt need him. He chose to walk-on in the SEC than go on scholly in a lesser conference.

We signed Shuess to try and get a shot at Nkimidjfhvfhfhshy- that was it
