The problem is that NU rarely gets guards like the type you describe. McIntosh was able to get in the lane because he has areally strong dribble with his off-hand and he developed that teardrop shot very well. Ryan is a bigger version and I think he will ultimately be a better three-point shooter than McIntosh. I think it would be a mistake not to pursue Ryan.

I agree that NU would benefit from Ryan's shooting, but, with my usual caveat, we really need a PG who can penetrate and got shots at the rim. That wasn't Mac, as much as I loved him. His 2-pt shooting went down over his career and his 3-point shooting was OK but never great.

What makes you so sure Buie isn’t that guy who can drive and take it to the rim?

I do think Ryan has that ability, plus the added benefit of having a great shooting stroke and the height to be an off-ball guard too.

I'm not sure at all. Maybe Buie's the guy -- I sure hope he is. But I couldn't really tell from his videos, which don't show a ton of finishes at the rim.

I agree that Ryan is not a PG at this level. At the same time, he's a better prospect than the vast majority of guys NU actually gets.

I'd love to get Ryan to play for NU! He's the fella that Teddy G had that bigtime story about- right?? I think Ryan would flourish playing for us/ccc.

Heck, NU already has an arena named after him, how could he not want to come here?

Joe--who I think could be a 2 & done. He clearly can get to the rim, among other skills.
But I don't see why it has to be one or the other.
I would take Ryan too because as Cometclear said, he's a BIG level player that comes from the very short list of admittable candidates.
And as to roster turnover, even the great programs like UVA have a fair amount of transfers in both directions.

I think we could definitely find a spot for Cormac. We don't need him to take it to the rim, we have one of the better ones in Gaines for driving to the basket. If he can knock 'em down from the perimeter consistently and play some D, he would be worth his weight in gold.

Is there any actual info that indicates NU is pursuing Ryan?

Just did the google thing, and an article about Gonzaga popped up with this tidbit:

"Ryan is considering Butler, Davidson, Marquette, Northwestern, Notre Dame, Penn, Texas, Villanova, Virginia and Yale, CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein tweeted."

I don't think academics is the cause for the transfer based on this list.

Well, they are pursuing me and I’m out of eligibility, Alamo’s this 50 and white. So, I think everybody is in play. You haven’t got a call yet?

Cormac Ryan is visiting Notre Dame next Monday and Tuesday. Brey says that he texted Ryan immediately the morning after Ryan Humphery saw his name in the portal. ND will lose T.J. Gibbs and Rex Pleuger on the wings after next season. Ryan would probably be in most direct competition with Robby Carmody in 2020-21.
