There is alot of incorrect info floating around this board about the new rule and how/why it effects us, especially with this latest *questionable* OL signee. So, I read up on it. Some of the same loop holes that were in the old rule still exist in the new rule. We signed 24 last year - 4 early enrolees(EEs) that can count back a class(Prescott, Trapp, Harris, and Redmond) = 20 from last year. So, we actually can sign 5 EEs this season to count toward last season's class. With the JUCO guys, that gives us 30 total scholarships for this year, provided we stay under the 85 man limit for the entire roster.

Thus, assuming all JUCO's EE and none of our HS guys do(which a few actually may), we still have at LEAST 4 highschool scholarships to give out...and 3 more EE's to hand out.

The conference's coaches voted -- also unanimously -- Wednesday to keep the 28-player limit that was in place, but the presidents went against their wishes Friday.</p>

The new limit is designed to curtail the practice of "oversigning," in which coaches could offer extra scholarships to players each year to guard against roster attrition that might hit their team.</p>

Every FBS school has a scholarship limit of 85 meaning that, even with attrition, some athletes were arriving for school with a scholarship no longer available for them.</p><p sizcache="69" sizset="161">As recently as two years ago, <font color="#2a446d">SEC</font> coaches could sign as many players as they wanted, as long as they only enrolled 25 in the fall. The league lowered the maximum limit to 28 signees last year, and took the number down again Friday.</p><p sizcache="69" sizset="162">For point of reference, <font color="#2a446d">Auburn</font> has signed 25 or fewer players in only three of the past 10 classes -- 2005, 2006 and 2011.</p><p sizcache="69" sizset="163">"We don't want to win at the expense of young people," <font color="#2a446d">SEC Commissioner Mike Slive said</font>. Here are some other changes the presidents enacted Friday:</p><ul sizcache="69" sizset="166">
[*]Starting in October, the <font color="#2a446d">SEC</font> will no longer allow one-year transfers. Beginning then, a transfer would have to have at least two years of eligibility remaining. That means <font color="#2a446d">North Carolina State transfer quarterback</font> Russell Wilsoncan still sign with an <font color="#2a446d">SEC</font> school if he chooses. "We're not interested for athletes coming in for the purpose of one year and then they're gone," <font color="#2a446d">Slive said</font>.
[*]December enrollees to schools will count to the next year's class, starting this year. In the past, coaches could count them on the previous class if it was under the limit.
[*]The signing class window is extended to Dec. 1.
[*]The <font color="#2a446d">SEC</font> is presenting legislation to the <font color="#2a446d">NCAA</font> that <font color="#2a446d">any signee at a school on summer aid counts against the school's scholarship numbers</font>, whether or not he sticks around until the fall.
[*]The <font color="#2a446d">SEC</font> will handle all medical hardship requests.
[*]7-on-7 camps can no longer be held on <font color="#2a446d">SEC</font> campuses. The coaches voted unanimously for that measure. [/list]
