During the game, the refs asked the players (both sides)

if they wanted to continue playing and the US AND the Ticos both said yes. At least that's what Sir Ian Darke led me to believe. If that is true, how can they protest?

I found it odd when I saw this a couple days ago. Both teams players wanted to continue play when the ref stopped the match. I doubt anything comes of it.

Good question - I have the answer...

That was asked after the match on espnfc.com

  1. They wanted it in Denver for a true, home field advantage (rowdy crowd). They got it. The tickets sold out in one hour (19,000 seats)
  2. They wanted to play and train at altitude because they knew they would turn around and play in altitude the next week (tomorrow) in Mexico.

Also, a snowstorm in late March in Denver is not really the norm. Average high for this time of year is almost 60 degrees.

Yep. The same group that thought Qatar in the summer would be a better place for the World Cup than the U.S.

I read a pretty long article about it and apparently it will be thrown out. Even if FIFA agrees and thinks it shouldn't count, the rules clearly say that the coach from the protesting team must verbally voice their protest during the game, the captains for BOTH teams must be present with the head official when the protesting team's captain verbally protests during the game, and the formal protest must come within 2 hours of the match ending. That's my understanding, and I also understand that none of those things happened. Eat your heart out. Have fun playing New Zealand.
