Glad to finally hear some news about this. Any news is good news at this point. Maybe this guy will get the ball rolling.

On a similar note, I heard that we're getting a Target & Kohl's near the HGI and Landbank towards the bypass.

Not true. Target came to MSU for the career fair and came to certain classes and everyone asked if they were bringing one to Stark. Said there are not and never were plans to bring one here. Starkville isn't big enough to support one.

Don't know about now, but at one time their policy was to only have stores in cities >100K.

But policies change sometime ... Cracker Barrel used to only build at or very near interstate highway exits.

I'd think a regional manager would know what they were talking about. Gulfport/Biloxi had a hard time getting one. Why would a town of 19,000 people get one that already has a Walmart?

She said if anything they'd put it in Columbus looking forward.

As far as the Cotton Mill being a chain hotel, I'm pretty disappointed.

I think at some point a version of the strip mall that was being planned for just West of Columbus will go through. It died a few years ago when the economy tanked, but it just makes too much sense and that area desperately needs decent shopping alternatives. In that location it would be within 15 minutes of Starkville & West Point and within 5 minutes of Columbus. That's a pretty good sized shopping base that would flock to a decent development at that site.

You aren't talking about the mall complex that was being planned around the crossroads years ago are you? I remember that one fell through when EMCC refused to make the Mayhew campus their main campus.

I think he is currently building a Courtyard near the new Fairfield in Columbus just off 18th avenue near the bypass.
