Could be germans but reports are that Hudspeth is interested...

In coaching the Mustard Buzzards. So much for that big raise from ULL. I guess it would be okay for him to coach down in Hattiesburg while Mullen keeps his seat warm for him in Starkville.

I looked it up the other day, with bonuses it looks like Fedora is making off with about $1.1 million this year. Not bad pay for a C-USA coach. If offered, I'd say Hudspeth probably takes it, unless he thinks Mullen is leaving for another job.

southern was willing to pay what they have been paying fedora. I heard talk among usm people a couple years ago that they were having a hard time coming up with money to pay fedora. I think they were expecting better recruiting and more response from the fans when they hired fedora. I think they will play it pretty safe when it comes to salary with the next coach.

first its not that much of a step up given the uncertainty of CUSA's existence and the fact of USM having no real chance to get into a BCS conference. Secondly, if he ever did want the MSU job in the event Mullen does leave I think him going to USM definitely harms that possibility. He certainly could move from USM to MSU but I just think that him being at USM would definitely make him less attractive to a lot of the MSU fanbase. Even if Mullen stays with us for the forseeable future Hud will likely end up with better opportunities to move on from ULL than USM if he proves out to be as good a coach as we think he is.

Even if it's basically the same quality as old C-USA, they're going to have somewhere to play. Losing Houston hurts a little, losing UCF hurts more, and losing SMU doesn't hurt that conference one bit. I live in Dallas, and SMU is an afterthought. How would him being at USM make him less attractive? I would love to scoop him up if he goes to USM, wins 9-10 games a year and/or makes off with conference titles. Wouldn't hesitate to hire him (assuming Dan leaves, which I don't think he will).

When did we become so elite to the point that where we are too good to look at the head coach at Southern? <div>
</div><div>I could care less what the fans think... whoever the candidate is, as long as he's a good coach and is a possibility, look at him and sign him if he's the best option.</div><div>
</div><div>Also, as far as conferences go, their merger with the MWC will make their stability alright. I don't think that will be one of their major concerns.</div>

directly from another in-state rival school. Some MSU fans probably wouldn't like it while others wouldn't care. As I said he could still make that move but it could possibly be a minor issue. Obviously if he was head and shoulders the best candidate out there for us people probably wouldn't care.

I'm just basing this off of how many times Jeff Bower's name came up when talking about future head football coaches back in the day and the odd Brett Favre love that some MSU fans have.

is if the coach was an Ole Miss coach. Even though there are a lot of MSU fans here that do not like USM, but the greater majority of MSU fans really are indifferent about USM or at least don't dislike them to the point to where they wouldn't want their head coach.

Guess I may have a little different perspective given I grew up in South Mississippi back in the day when State and Southern played on an annual basis. The rivalry was much more heated back then and during the Reggie Collier era on to the Brett Favre era I dealt with much more back and forth with USM fans than I ever did with OM fans. Its definitely a different time now.

As a Southern fan, I don't want Hudspeth because it is more likely than not that he will take the MSU job whenever it opens up. With Mullen being a big name among possible replacements for top jobs, that could be next year. I don't want to hire a coach for one year and then have to repeat the process. One year and 3 or 4 years are completely different. Also, I don't personally believe Hudspeth is the best candidate out there. I'd much rather have Dykes from LTech or call up Anderson. And to be honest, I'd be really surprised if Anderson didn't get the job. It will likely save us money by calling him up too. Like I stated yesterday, we are in a position to pay close to the $1m mark, but would be much more comfortable at the $700-800k range.
