Could beating Florida today ultimately cost us our coach?

If we beat Florida today does is firm up Mullen as Ubans Myers's replacement? I know for the short term it would be huge for us and our program but in the long run will it cost us our coach? What do y'all think?

I like to tell myself just take a win over Florida and let the chips fall where they may but I think Florida is one of the 3 - 4 schools that Mullen would jump to in a second. A win over them, at night in the swamp would really infatuate the Florida fan base with the Hunchback of Starkvegas.

So yeah, I'm a little concerned about it. That said, I'm not expecting to win tonight, either.

He really does have terrible posture.

Meyer will get fired after this season no matter what. So, would a win tonight cause Mullen to get the UF job - No.

However, a win tonight would open some other eyes across the country. Lets say Texas AM fired Mike Sherman, would they look harder at Mullen? Probably. Or would UGA look harder? Yes. Probably not UF though.

and of course Fla is one of those. Fla's administration is not going to be sold on one game, it's going to be on how has he done at State in turning our program around. We are going to beat one of the big boys sooner or later, and it will be big when it happens regardless if it is Fla or not.

I dont think Meyer (sp) is going anywhere in the next few years. He is still a young guy. Thank God Miles solidified his job for the next couple of years.

Teams I'd be worried about in the next couple of seasons are Georgia, Texas A&M (because of the Texas recruiting base and the money the Aggies have), Michigan possibly...

Syracuse, Illinois, maybe NC but I doubt those would be enticing enough for him to leave the SEC.

Mullen is young enough and our program is historically ****** enough that whenever he does start knocking off the big names, he's going to get looks. I'd rather that happen after tonight than a few years down the road or beyond.

I'm done moments. So that could be a concern. But, you can't worry about all the possibilities. Let's just hope he successful as long as we have him. Who knows......if Fla doesn't come calling, we might have him for a while.

Mullen couldn't be reached on the phone the night and day after UM said he was stepping down because of his health.

how long has it been since a MSU head football coach left us due to being so good he got an offer from a bigger/more prestigous program?

"let's continue to be mediocre so we can keep a good coach"....

what if he wins a SEC title or coaches us to a BCS bowl win?... what if he decides, hey... I'm not looking for another job....what about that peterson dude at boise?

either way, shying away from that gamble is pointless and worrying about losing our coach due to success on the field is crazy

and decides to bolt... I'm not saying he would but just think about how much more attractive MSU would be to whomever our next coach would be compared to when we fired croom?

we landed one of the best offensive coord in the country...someone with a ring when our program was as deep in the ******* as it has been in a long time...

let's beat florida and go on to 8-4... and let the chips fall... much better than finishing 3-9 and going on a begging tour for a new coach... I'd rather be 8-4 looking for a new coach than the latter...

and finally getting somebody good and then they will leave once they have a little success. Bonedaddy is that low self-esteem chick you date that calls or texts you every 15 minutes when you leave her to go out with the guys. She worries the entire time you are gone that you will cheat on her or find somebody better.

If somebody hires him away, it means he has been doing a really good job of building our program. We have 2 asst coaches in Manny and Hud that would be very good replacements should he leave. They would continue building and wouldnt make many changes at all from what we are doing now. Or, we would be in a better position to bring in another quality coach. Either way, we are going to be fine.

The Croom Error wont be made again- LT is gone

I think you nailed his personality perfectly as this fits along with his whole attitude about all things Miss State.

Like the song says.."paranoia, big destroyer". Jeez, how about enjoying having a decent coach for a change no matter how long it lasts. Oh and by the way, we're going to beat the Gators tonight 24-21. Deal with it.

Do people really sit around and worry about beating quality teams because it may bring attention to our coach? Talk about wasting time.

Mullen has this thing headed in the right direction. As others have said, he is going to beat a great team. I'd take one tonight and be thrilled. If Mullen gets hired away from us, that means we no longer stink. We talked about this back during the Croom Error and mostly agreed that we'd rather be a stepping stone than a coaching graveyard. Maybe, just maybe, the stepping stone might become a landing spot fora quality coach one day.

I totally agree. If Mullen is stolen away by a bigger, more wealthy program, then that means MSU football is no longer the craptastic disaster it was when Crxxms left.

I will say this, if State gets to a bowl this year, it is time to give Dan a nice raise. Crxxm got around 1.9 after the Liberty Bowl season. Dan would deserve something comparable if the Bulldogs can win 7 games this year.

As soon as Mississippi State has a 4-2 record you all are so concerned about our coach leaving.. There are some things you can do to ensure that he wants to stay.. First ensure that the stadium is sold out every game, even games like Alcorn State. There should be 55,000 people in the stadium, not barely 50,000... Be loud in the stadium, every game we have should be like the 2009 Florida game in terms of atmosphere and noise...<div>
</div><div>I think Dan Mullen will stay with us if we show that we want him to stay. Mississippi State isnt one of these pressure cooker SEC schools whos fan base is completelydelusionalbecause they expect a NC run every year. I think Dan will stay because he has more time and patience at Mississippi State... And also, of course if MSU pays him enough.. So donate to the Bulldog Club too..</div>

Heavesy, Balis or Diaz.

Without those three, I dont' think we are talking about Mullen's success.

And also, why is everyone so damn positive that Mullen would be UF's first choice?
