Could we beat Tulane or James Madison?

Last year's team, with our current OC and special teams coach, and Emmitt from this year could have been a top 12 team. We got rolled by Indiana because we had Satt coaching the offense and turned the ball over 5 times but we could have beaten OSU on the road the next week. Rhule is screwed, just the wrong man at the wrong time but we had the defensive line and a decent qb, and Rhule just hired some of the worst coaches possible...I don't blame him...his life was falling apart in Carolina, he hadn't coached in college in a while, and really wasn't that great when he did, and Trev comes and offers him 80 million guaranteed. Rhule knew nothing about NIL, Transfer portal, only had personal ties to the northeast, which is the worst area to recruit, his ties to Texas were connected by an alcoholic who was fired in weeks. It is important to realize that we are not winning because of incompetence, not because of some inherent problem with Nebraska. We can and should be able to crack the top 12.

With a full complement of our starters? Absolutely. Without EJ? Maybe not.

we are much closer then 3 years ago...we just need a run pass qb, a workhorse rb, some oline and dline work

What makes you say we’re “much closer” than three years ago? Hell, we beat Iowa 3 years ago and got crushed by them this year. And that was with one of the many positions you noted we still need to upgrade. Really curious to hear what makes you say that? Other than blind hope, faith, homerism, the fact that we probably benefited from an easier schedule and a little less disfunction than we had 3 years ago.

a couple of things:
1. the team is very young..last year we had rvp sophomore and nwari freshmen on the dline..these guys will improve along with some other and the portal
2. the oline has a bunch of young guys who should be coming along and the portal, plus we have a oline coach now who won't spend half the season harming Pritchett play
3. the collapsing pocket/statue qb offense is gone..now we will have qb's that won't be afraid to throw the ball and can run..
4. I'm sure we will be geting a work horse rb in the portal..
5. I see dana and the new dc getting her dialed in alot better going foreward..like our special teams coach..
but mostly the culture has been changed, coach ain't out drinking and playing golf..or calling for onside kicks up by 11 points
it shows on the feild too..now we are going to bowls the last 2 years, and not looking at our shoes and waving the head back and forth..like Riley and frost...now we are minimum 7 wins and not 3 wins..

but I'm not infallible, nobody is..
I guess I just try to be more positive instead of ***** and moan constantly..
work and build things instead of tear things down

Unfortunately for JM and Tulane they ran up against the two best offensive teams in the country and got run off the field, just like NU would get rolled.

Unless a team is a IND/OSU/GA/MIAMI type defense, those two offenses are gonna roll.

It's hard to knock a 10-2 and 12-1 team and not think they wouldn't beat NU, they were double digit underdogs just like NU is with a # 15 team that couldn't hang with those two top #5/#6 teams.

An Ole Miss v. Oregon matchup is not likely, but I would love to see that trackmeet.

You realize all but the bold of your post (so about 90% of it) is just hope, right? And the rest is debatable. No onside kicks up by 11, but in game coaching decisions haven't exactly been Rhule's strong suit. So you mostly just hope we’re closer than we were 3 years ago. That’s a far cry from “we’re much closer”

If we played them in September, yes. If playing them in November after we start our annual nose dive then heck no we would lose.

We would get dog walked and quit. Plus believe it or not our coaching staff would get outcoached by those teams. So my answer would be No

Could we beat them? Yes. Would we beat them? No.

Nebraska football has a twisted combination of average talent & coaching combined with an unearned sense of entitlement that prevents the team from competing well against good teams with a lesser pedigree.

Could and likely would. I assume your point is that they are my really that good of teams and do t deserve the playoff spot. You wont find many people to disagree with you. The system is what it is and until changed we just get used to below avg teams in playoffs.
Don't worry, the moment one of those teams wins a game in said playoffs they will change the system. As it stands they are sacrificial to another home game for high quality teams just like Neb would be.

Honestly.... maybe? It really could go either way. Sad.
