Could we pull this off at Scott Field?

Would be cool if we could...

Regardless of your feelings about soccer, the atmosphere at games (especially in Europe, obviously, but even in places like Seattle and Portland) is second to none. The singing and chanting is amazing.

Sounders Fan and MSU grad here

This is Seattle Sounders fans doing a slow clap. They also did it in the middle of the game for USC versus Panama and the effect was incredible.

I go to a lot of Sounders games and sit in that area (end zone). Its really simple. There is a guy who bangs a big bass drum twice as the cue to clap. It steadily goes from slow intervals to very fast. This, the cheer is known as "Boom-Boom-Clap"...

I wish our AD or whomever would come to a Sounders game to get ideas. The genius of it all is that everything is kept unbelievably simple. There are about six songs/chants so everyone in the stadium knows them and just does them over and over. The Emerald City Supporters are really in charge of all everything. They sit 3 sections behind the goal, led by 1 guy standing on an elevated stand behind goal with a small PA (you can see the small speakers in the video behind goal) and usually a couple of guys on each side of him to help. He makes a quick announcement like, "Okay, let's go! Boom-Boom-Clap (or whatever chant)." He sorta gets it started for that end zone and within a few seconds, the whole stadium is involved. Much more efficient and effective than 6 girls shaking Pom Poms. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

The ECS is very organized. They also make the large tifos (huge banners) for each match.

Be a lot cooler if we did it but skipped the first 2 minutes. Basically start it with the tempo etc. from the 2 min mark on. It should be pretty easy if you can get people to quiet down and pay attention to the drum queue. That should be easier with the endzone this year. Previously being on the 50 yard line in the student section you could only half-*** hear the band at all. The real problem will be getting people to clap rather than ring the bell, and even if they ring the bell getting them to only clack once as opposed to 2 clacks that people seem to struggle with during the games already.
