I have to wonder if the ship has sailed for making a change this year. There are already 6 open jobs (it was 7, but VT hired Franklin, taking probably the best unemployed coach off of the market) that have been open for some time now. Agents and current coaches all have to already be engaged in negotiations. Making the decision to fire Beamer now would put SC in the position of being the seventh and newest job opening. The SC job isn't some gem that would cause the agents and coaches to suddenly stop in their tracks to pivot to.I dont agree with the notion that we should keep a bad coach because we might not do better.
Our last two coaching hires have been text book, what not to do in a coaching search. A man who was just fired for gross incompetence and a guy who was never a coach or coordinator, but might be "our Dabo".
I dont think its a bad thing to want our AD to go out and hire an actual head coach, one who wasn't just fired, and see what we can get.
Bring Beamer back for 2026 but have him on a short leash. If things aren't looking good 4 games into the season, kick him to the curb and get an early start on finding a new coach.
