I think a lot of SEC fans are assuming 10+ wins is in, 9-3 is out. That’s makes sense looking at last season.

But that is one data point. I think with enough years in the current format, we could see a 9-3 SEC team get in AND/OR a 10-2 SEC team get left out.

Examples: Florida could get in at 9-3 this year. Ole Miss could get left out at 10-2. It all depends on what happens around the country and if your opponents win games that strengthen your resume.

Hypothetical: What if Georgia is the only team on Ole Miss’s schedule with more than eight wins and that is one of Ole Miss’s two losses? They would be 10-2 without a signature win. Depending on how the rest of the country plays out, I could see them being left out, despite the clear line drawn at 10 wins last season.

ETA: South Carolina plays six ranked teams. LSU, Florida, and Oklahoma play seven ranked teams. All of those teams having 4+ losses is not a crazy scenario.

Conference vs non-conference losses would be a big factor too. Going 7-1 in the SEC with 2 early OOC loses against playoff teams would be more compelling vs going 5-3

Ain’t no way a team is getting into the 12 team CFP with 8 wins, even if they are Flahrda.

Yeah, I'm thinking a 9 is the safer bet.
See, you think you're being appropriately pessimistic, but you are forgetting that if we're 3-9 or god forbid, 2-10, we're also very likely to be (0-8), so having an 8 in our record is the safer bet.

Just so I'm clear, that's 8 wins THIS season, or can we add the last 2 seasons wins to the total to make it fair?
