After watching our BCS bubble burst in style - there's a reason why UH's unofficial slogan is "We Cooged It" - my buddy and I are now getting ready for our first trip to Starkville.

Mind if I ask a couple of questions of the braintrust?

Based on y'all's sound advice, I changed my flight from Saturday to Friday, and now have plenty of time to drive to Starkville in a driving rainstorm on Saturday morning.

First question is where is a good place in Starkville to retire after the game for grub, beer, and the Florida-LSU game?

Second question is what exactly does one do in Jackson on a Sunday? Flight home is Monday morning, so we have some time to kill.

As before, thanks for your help, and good luck on Saturday. As for the game, the real over/under is Dixon going for 300. I'd take the under, but I wouldn't win by much.

The Veranda has excellent food and plenty of TV's, but it is more of an older crowd and away from the other bars. Downtown you would want to try Mugshots, Old Venice or Barristers. Mugshots has awesome hamburgers, Old Venice is pizza and pasta, and Barristers is your standard bar food, with decent burgers. All have TVs. Mugshots has more of a younger crowd, with the other two having a more older-college age crowd. Cotton District is the other area to go out, and your best bet for food and to watch the game would be The Cotton District Grill or Rock Bottom. If I were you, I would head Downtown.

Usually, there's isn't much going on on Sunday besides church stuff. For me anyway.

I will say though, the State Fair is in town, and while that may sound lame, and yes, there are Carnies and etc. like any other fair, there are also some really neat exhibits in the Trade Mart building. There are a lot of antique cars and there are some other cool Mississippi type things like bee keepers and stuff like that there. Plenty of Southern food there to. Just look for the ridiculous looking dome shaped building that is supposed to be a circus tent, and you'll see the fair.

Most of the museums and things like that are closed on Sundays.

Damn you missed it by two days. There is a guy at our basketball coliseum right now playing with his computer. It's supposed to be awesome. Sorry you missed it.

1) You are not very far from The Silver Star and Golden Moon Casino's...

2) You are also only about 3-hours away from Tunica...9-casinos ( Little Las Vegas ) nice rooms, free drinks if you gamble, good bars and entertainment and it will be packed since Bama and Ole Miss are in town....stay at the GoldStrike, The Horseshoe, Sam's Town, Hollywood or Harrah's....rooms should be around 70-80 bucks if you book now..

3) Then you are only about 2.5 hours back to Jackson on I-55...

Dont sell the cotton district short. The Grill, Up Your Alley, and Rock Bottom are great for watching the game and getting some food( not up your alley though) Then you have Bin 612 and martini sushi(regular bar, bad name) to go to after. middle age college crowd and can ride the free university shuttle downtown if you dont like the area. Mugshots has been 1 in and 1 out so get there early if you go

If you're staying on the North side of town (or Madison/Ridgeland), there are a few good restaurants in the Renaissance/Township area. Mint or Soulshine. Or you might hit The Bulldog to watch football. Food's not bad, good TVs, and most importantly there is usually a fair amount of hot women. If you see a green credit card with my name on it, please feel free to use my tab. I'm assuming it's still open from Saturday night.

If you're out east, close to the airport -- I have no idea where to go, or whether they even sell alcohol. I've heard rumors they were thinking about joining the 21st (20th?) century, but I'm not sure it's happened yet.

Downtown, you may try Hal & Mal's or Martin's. I wouldn't go to those if you want to watch ball.

If you're on the west side of town -- do you carry a pistol?

ETA: I'd recommend Ptolemy's Ptavern in Starkville on Saturday if it were open.

If you are trying to catch the Ole Miss-Bama game after our game, I would go with Mugshots. If it's crowded, Barrister's next door will have the same TV coverage, though not nearly the same quality food. If both of these are crowded, try State Theatre. They have a huge projection screen, decent food, and usually great drink specials.

I would stay far, far away from Hal and Mal's this weekend. I was at Keiffer's last night and found out that OUToberfest, the state's largest LGBF (not that there is anything wrong with it if that is who you are, Rebel Bruiser) festival is going on downtown this weekend.

go to the Silver Star in Philadelphia, MS. It's only a little over an hour from the Jackson airport. Tunica is 3 hours away and is just outside Memphis.

or the Alumni House, get drunk and watch NFL. That will be the limit of what you can do in Jackson on Sunday.

The State Fair is not a bad idea but don't let your impression of MS be taken from this event.

From Jackson he will only be thirty minutes from Vicksburg that has five casinos. If that's not your gig like someone else said you have the fair, you also have the military park in vicksburg.

Too bad they could not put the Alabama, Ole Miss game on the big screen in the stadium when our game was over. That would be different, 20k MSU fans pulling for Alabama in one place at the same time.

although the Military Park is pretty cool if you are into history. And Vicksburg has more to do than Philadelphia.

especially when golf is involved. i would only add that you want to play and stay at the golden moon, not the silver star. they're part of the same resort, and connected by a walkover across the street, but the moon just has such a better feel (and it's newer).

I was the dumbass that did that exact thing Wednesday night. I guess it's a "tag you're it" thing. Buy the 14 dollar large gyro combo. It's the biggest damn gyro I've ever seen and after I ate it, I was in such euphoria that I didn't care about how much money I spent and the kids had a blast.

in Jackson that is. You know all of the New Orleans residents that came to Houston? Well the rest are in Jackson. You should understand.
In Starkville, go to the Cotton District Grill, and ask for a Fried Cheese Burger. Afterwards check out the other bars in the cotton district- Bin 612, Rock Bottom, etc.

Pearl River Resort.....very fine dining....two first class casinos....two of the best golf courses in Mississippi and only 65 miles from Jackson. It will take you an hour and 15 minutes to drive to Philadelphia...Highway 25 to Lousville, Highway 15 to Philadelphia. Holiday Inn Express is new in Philadelphia and a good place as well as the Hilton Garden Inn (also new). My preference is to book a room at the Golden Moon Hotel but it may be full. Stay in Philly Sunday then drive to Jackson early Monday morning; you wont be sorry. The airport is an hour and 20 minutes from Golden Moon, at most.

Their radio commercial says that they have a buffet of fine southern cuisine. Try it out.
