Met a nurse from northern Cali last month. They aren't using a lot of ICU beds from staffing issues. Btw, ground zero of covid in the US I'm NY never overran a hospital. Cross those fingers, though. May get lucking with the new, scarier variant.

82,000 ICU beds, 65k in use, 13k used for COVID. Still not taking anyone’s beds but nice try. Listen to Andy, CNN or any other propaganda distributor and you think every single bed is taken and the vast majority of them are by COVID patients. These percentages weren’t much different even during delta and at he height of COVID In 2020. Don’t believe everything you hear. Do some research and form your own opinion.

SURE it’s an overplayed song - and i know some of the imagery has lost its aura and settled into silver -n- turquoise 70s goofiness....

but it’s really was a heck of a creation from the standpoint of writing, recording and production -

LOL - I don't know what to say. It's like nails on a chalkboard to me. Always has been. I freely admit I'm in a very small minority, which is a position I've found myself in a LOT over the years.

Speaking of, I'm starting to think that my off-brand sense of humor and story-telling is wearing thin in GYERO. It's been a common refrain that I should clam up.

You can't just look at total number of beds and make a decision about capacity and staffing for a disease like covid. You can't pass along a heart attack or a stroke to other patients around you. Because this is communicable, there are specific protocols that go into effect. So, for example, every Covid patient has to go into a negative pressure room to reduce the chance of spread. Not every room in the ICU is set up for that, and the HHS data does not allow you to sort by number of negative pressure rooms available.

The next problem is that not all ICU staff have the specialization needed to deal with Covid. HHS data doesn't tell you how many respiratory therapists are on staff at each of these hospitals. They may not have any, which means that those ICU beds are useless because they don't have anyone on staff who can handle the problem.

Then you start getting into ventilators, and the number of staff who are trained on how to manage those devices. The other problem with Covid is how it reacts in the body. It starts impacting multiple organs, and it is that multi-organ failure that eventually leads to death. Covid patients take much more staffing to deal than many other patients in the ICU as a result of this. Just because an ICU bed is available doesn't mean that a hospital isn't at capacity. They simply may not have the staffing, or a safe environment to put a new patient.

The average person should get vaccinated because the average person isn't in great shape to begin with. Someone fit, healthy and young however, should be allowed to make their own decision baseed on whatever reason they deem valid.

Your health is not their responsibility.

Me....me....me....mentality. Typical of the Red Hat Society. Don't give a crap about anyone but themselves.
I vaccinate so I don't get deathly ill and clog up the medical system making it more difficult for the car crash victims, stroke victims, heart attack victims, the elderly or immunocompromised to receive the proper care they need in a hospital.
I vaccinate so that a nurse is not having to hook me up to a ventilator while a stroke victim down the hall needs a diaper change or a cancer patient needs pain meds.
But of course this won't register with you because you don't have a clue that younger, healthy people are getting Covid, you're a frightened child around needles that give you boo boos, and you also couldn't care less about anyone else including your own grandparents.
I am a patriot that loves his country and fellow Americans. That's why I vax.

Haven't lived with my parents since I left for college at age 18. That was 39 years ago.
Show me some facts from a source other than YouTube, My Pillow guy or Joe Rogan that says unvaxxed Covid patients aren't making up over 80 percent of Covid patients in the ICU and are not negatively impacting quality of care for others needing care.
It's just common sense that the Red Hat Society is completely missing for some reason.

Cruise required proof of vax and negative test before boarding but already 17 positives. But yes....keep pushing those mandates that keep legally getting struck down and also don't work at all vs infection.

Like many said for at least a year, stop wringing hands over cases and focus on serious cases. Of course that would mean the government gets their tyranny toys taken away so it won't happen

I understand your point, but I can't imagine that 192 patients out of 12K+ inpatient beds or 70 patients out of 1,466 available beds for ICU patients in the state of Louisiana is taxing their hospital resource in and of itself. It will get down to the hospital by hospital counts so if you fee like looking hard enough feel free to try to find a specific hospital where they are >90% and let me know. Then we can look at that hospital. If not, then I think it's safe to assume COVID isn't taxing the hospitals enough to warrant an article that blows it out of proportion like the one Sam's shin linked.

They were from Health and Human Services which was linked in the post. And what do you think your numbers reflect? What you show actually looks like a comprehensive view which show's fewer patients, not more.

As for their "83% are unvaxed". Those numbers are from 11/18-11./24. Would love to see the week to week numbers given the overall numbers are so low it would only take a small number of people that are unvaxxed to sway those numbers. Regardless, those 83% also likely have multiple comorbidities, and have been at risk. If you paid any attention to any post I have made, and likely others have echoed, you will hear that most everyone AGREES that certain people should take the risk and get the vaccine, because even if they have side effects it will likely reduce their risk. My point is that I had COVID and it was less severe than some sinus infections I have had. Why should I be REQUIRED to get it when it's proven I can get through it with relative ease.

Ok....on this we can probably agree. I'm not a big fan of government mandated vaccines either. I do think that if you are a healthcare worker or first responder who may be giving mouth to mouth resuscitation it's ok to require the vax. Schools require vaxxes but they have never required a flu vax and I do see the argument that this is a new vaccine so public schools probably shouldn't. Private should have the right if they choose to.
I also think a private business should be able to require or not require Covid related measures. The government should not be mandating or restricting the private sector imo.
I hate government mandated vax/mask laws that impact the private sector....that said, the stupid right wing state laws that prohibit the local government right to make mask laws are just as bad the stupid lib laws that require it. Let the locals decide for themselves.
