What's that area like and what kind of crowd goes to Cowbells? Thuggish, non-students, trashy, frats, etc.
But after 12 or so, there aren't many other options in Starkville.
If mommy and daddy paid for you to have friends in college (fratastic) then cotton district is your destination. Don't forget your costas, chacos, a pair of your girlfriend's/wife's shorts, and a fishing shirt.
Requirements for above attire:
rope for sunglasses
a douche bag to wear all clothing items
Things not required:
sun for sunglasses
white water for sandals
balls for wearing the shorts
fish for shirt
If you don't meet any of the above qualifications you can still go to the cotton district or anywhere else.

I'd recommend the cotton district to out of towners, as long as you don't mind being cramped up in a small bar with rich kids. The talent will look much nicer there.
Zorba's and Old Venice can be good. Halfway House is my favorite, it attracts more of the grad-school age crowd.
Rick's attracts a little bit of everything, it has good and terrible nights.
Cowbell's...not for me.

...or you're illiterate, or you just missed the last sentence.
I'm still trying to figure out why I even responded. People take shots at one crowd but how dare they fire back. And to think this is the place that makes fun of the sheep!!!
To add my two cents also...Halfway House is one of the best bars in starkville, I've worked security there a few times and it doesnt allow anyone under 21 in there so the crowd is always more mature and less frat-tastic than the district
Old Venice and the Veranda are for the older crowds which is also nice
Steer clear of Dave's...I 17'n hate that grimy hole in the wall.

I'm making my first trip to Miss St as an away fan this fall. I've heard of Cowbells bar & grill and may rent a condo in that area. What's that area like and what kind of crowd goes to Cowbells? Thuggish, non-students, trashy, frats, etc.

Pretty much the most laid back place on earth. You may be literally the first person Ive heard try and bash it.
Gotta love the frat bashing too. Very telling.
