Do we have any shot at getting Marcus Blaze?
depends on who you talk to. Some people inside OSU say we are right there in the final 3 and it's anyone's guess. Everyone else says no.

I think the little back and forth between Gilman and him was interesting. I have no idea what was said but it looked pretty comfortable.

I wonder what effect having Daton and RBY at the RTC has on Blaze’s decision. It used to be that having high-level training partners was important for recruits, but now the top high schoolers are already competing for senior teams and they might see the RTC guys as competition to train against not with. I don’t see any 61kg challengers for Blaze at Penn St or Ohio St, but they do still have great training partners one weight removed.

How long is Blaze going to be at 61? I have no idea but if he is going to grow at all 61 might not be his long term home. I think RBY is actually a great asset. You get a world-class training partner at your weight who really isn't competition for a team spot.

My big thing with Blaze is that I'm sure he'll want to transition to 65kg eventually. Between, Gilman, Daton and RBY, OSU could absolutely make better and theres no conflict w/ another 65kg guy n the room. Can that be said at psu w/ Bartlett or Nick Lee? Ohio state has Mendez at 65kg which is a conflict. Just thinking out loud.

Worst negative about OSU and everyone knows it is location. I think they want to stay close to home and probably his brother at Purdue.

DID YOU JUST READ MY MIND? What the hell? In my defense I started my post 15 mins ago but got busy at the shop, so there!

The life of a college kid revolves around his campus, friends, and teammates. That could be almost anywhere without really mattering. The town or state it is in many times is irrelevant. For crying out loud Iowa is in the middle of cornfields and kids from all over go to school there.
I do not know anything about the campus life or atmosphere of OSU, but its location can be overcome by a thriving and exciting campus and a good culture on the team.

That’s not good!

Too much talent walking around that make fighters weak in the knees.

The talent up north makes it much easier to keep strong knees.

I agree about the life of a college kid as you described it. I lived it. I didn't mean to imply OSU has a bad location in general. Great campus and everything a student athlete could ask for. But Blaze is on record saying he wants to stay close to home. That doesn't mean he absolutely won't come but with his brother in the B10 at Purdue and him seemingly being so family oriented, if it's a family decision then OSU might well be to far away from home.

Just from what everyone is saying, I could see Blaze picking an underdog, or just staying close to home.

How will weigh-ins work at worlds? I wonder how much a cut to 92kg would affect Sadulaev’s gas tank

The last time he wrestled anything but 97kg, I am pretty sure was in 2016 when he won gold in the Olympics at 86kg. 11-pound cut from 97 to 92. It may take its toll on him, but he is one hell of a wrestler, one of the best. Looking forward to seeing this one if it happens!

Speaking of Cowboy RTC, any word on where Dake is hanging his cowboy hat these days and in the future? I ask because rumor was that big things may happen in September. Today is 9/30.

Pretty sure it was all speculation and wishful thinking. Still makes sense, but who knows other than Dake and Taylor if there is any truth to it?

I am pretty sure that was a shot fired by you! haha

The original rumor maybe, but someone else said September back in July.

Additional benefits of the renewed focus on the RTC already starting to show up. A friend just showed me a photo (I think it was on instagram but I don’t have an account), of RBY, Abakarov, and Mirzo at a OKC area High School this week.

Pretty f’ing cool for those kids.

Brayden Thompson's talent is immense, that much is obvious. If he buys in (particularly in lifestyle) then he has a very high ceiling.

One phrase Cael always says that I'm sure DT will constantly echo about his wrestlers is "It's up to him"
It sounds like he is doing the right things if DT is bringing him to worlds as a partner. Could be a monster coming out of redshirt in 2025-2026.

Solid 184 was interesting too. Take over for Plott
I think that's his right weight (he was a 182 in HS) but it wasn't an option obviously with Plott there and he was the best option at 174 last year even with a sucked down cut. It works out perfectly since he got a shot at the postseason. If he redshirted last year, he's sitting this year anyways with Hamiti coming in.
