But the Cowboys gave up a 1st, 3rd, and a 6th rounder? That's a hell of a lot for anything other than a superstar and Roy Williams isn't exactly a superstar yet. Hell, didn't the 49ers only get something like a 3rd rounder for TO?

i think its a lot too and i think he could have got him for less from maybe the eagles. but it is very clear the cowboys were the highest bidders and detroit knew. this will be remembered as the first great move in the post-mullen era in detroit.

dallas no longer has to worry about a #2 reciever they really needed because they have two #1 receivers. roy williams will be a cowboy for a long time and i guess 3 draft picks is worth giving up for a player that gives you 10 years. this move was made for the long term too.

Trading that many picks for a superstar player will guarantee you a Super Bowl Berth.

get out of the way when ANY trade is being discussed.

In this case, Detroit wins, hands down... those sounds you hear from the North are the Lions' (now, Matt Millen - free) front office laughing and celebrating this deal.

is that next year's draft will be loaded with linemen. In Scout's top 32, there are 0 Quarterbacks and 1 WR.

They need a QB, but really, they are better served having another ****** year and getting their QB in 2010. That forces them to improve their lines this year.

Michael Johnson would be a good start.

As for the Cowboys, you can bet Jerry will make a move before the draft to get back at least one of those picks. Jettisoning the OTHER Roy Williams would be a good start. That guy is seriously overrated.

you should definitely build a line before drafting your "qb of the future" and throwing him to the wolves. for evidence, look no further than my houston texans. after what i thought was a pretty good expansion draft (still hate boselli didn't play in houston), they took david carr with their first #1 pick. i didn't think carr was a franchise QB, but i think they thought they needed to get a QB as soon as possible. and carr was the best QB that year, so they took him.

i would have rather seen the texans draft a lineman or some defense, and play the first year or two with a veteran QB. sure, you may be delaying your chance for success for a couple of years, but if you draft the right QB with a team that's already built, your chances will be much better.

of course, the colts and peyton manning would disagree, i guess. but i think there are more carrs out there than mannings.

also, a 1st AND 3rd was way too much to pay for roy williams. </p>
