CPL Pick’Em Week 6

Week 6 is here! CPL kicks off the week with 7 Thursday games! We do have 2 Gately games today so we do get the CPL staple of the 4:15 kickoff! Nothing is better than a 4:15 kick, with a Gately dog and 3 people in the stands!

Kennedy vs Senn
There are 4 things that are guaranteed in life, death, taxes, that I’m picking Senn and we’ll talk about the 4th one later. Not only do I have Senn winning this one, my bold prediction is they roll off the bus at game time fully dressed for the game and win!

Catalyst Maria vs Harper
Harper is ending football after this year. It is truly a tragic story. School is down to under 40 students I believe and around 16 players. I have to give these young men a lot of credit for continuing to play. My Maria is a great song by Brooks and Dunn. Country songs are often tragic. Maybe Brooks and Dunn could write a song about Harper football and these courageous young men.

Fenger vs Tilden
The 4th thing that is guaranteed is that I’m going to want to pick Fenger, but I know when I pick Fenger they almost always lose. But even I can’t jinx the Fingers against Tilden! Or can I? Don’t need to risk it, go Fingers!

Lindblom vs Schurz
A few years ago Lindblom was rising like a phoenix. Then the coach went to Tennessee and the football program had some struggles. I am not a Schurz fan, I don’t think I have ever selected Schurz to win in pick’em. I don’t think I’ve ever been wrong on a Schurz game to this point. Schurz don’t fail me now!

Mather vs Steinmetz
The Mather Rangers, I have to admit I’m a fan! Maybe it’s because it makes me think of Ranger Rick Magazine, a nature magazine loved by children around the world. Maybe it’s due to Ranger Joe and Mr. Woodchuck from Full House. Interesting story about Mr. Woodchuck. Dave Coulier kept Mr. Woodchuck after the show ended. Unfortunately Mr. Woodchuck is no longer with us as Dave’s dog, Ranger, ate his face. But the most likely reason I love the Rangers is because of Chuck Norris and Walker Texas Ranger. The greatest show on TV. It’s a long road but I figured out why I like the Rangers of Mather, thank you for your help! Steinmetz had a young hotshot coach come in from Naz this summer, he talked a lot on twitter about how he was going to fix everything, and then he jumped over to Bolingbrook after day 1 of Fall Camp I here. If a kid did that he would be out for the year, must be nice to be a coach. The boys of Steinmetz are still reeling from the loss I hear.

Payton vs Urban Prep Bronzeville
Payton, the greatest bear! You know his school has to be able to play a little football. I’ll admit I don’t know much about the Urban Prep Bronzeville Lions. Did any of you see that story with the lady at the Bronx zoo who went in the den?
How dumb are people? This stuff amazes me. How this lady didn’t get eaten is beyond me. Are the lions at the Bronx zoo vegans? Or are they just on a strict no dump people diet? Either way you go in a Lions den I’m in favor of the Lion eating you. What does this have to do with football? I don’t know, these picks have taken way to long and now I’m tired and hungry.

Just telling a guy down the hall that I was hoping CPS Pick em' was out before the 4:15 Thursday start. He thought I was talking about a CPS Picket and the potential teacher strike. He is clearly not in the know. On to the picks!

Kennedy vs Senn
I made a vow not to mention Senn's opposition and get to the pick. This week they play Kennedy, so I feel compelled to at least mention the president that stared down the Soviet Union in Cuba, bringing the world dangerously close to nuclear war, all while having an affair with Marilyn Monroe. Dude was the man. Too bad Kennedy High doesn't have the men to compete with the Dawgz of Senn. Take Senn.

Catalyst Maria vs Harper
Read the Sun Times article about Harper. If you love high school football, it will bring a tear to your eye. Pick Harper to go out on top.

Fenger vs Tilden
This game sounds like it should be taking place in 1920. I have no idea if they played in 1920. I do know Elliot Ness graduated from Fenger. I don't know if he played football, but if he did, I would never bet against the guy that took on Capone. Fenger is Untouchable in this one.

Lindblom vs Schurz
Schurz should have won their first game. They will definitely win this one. Pick is Schurz.

Mather vs Steinmetz
There is a HUDL video of Mather vs. Steinmetz. While everyone else is watching the back, a 300 lb Steinmetz lineman pancakes a Mather guy, then lays on him and crosses his arms defiantly. It is one of the greatest highlight videos of all time, and it has nothing to do with the actual play. Lightning strikes twice. Mather gets the highlight, Steinmetz gets the W.

Payton vs Urban Prep Bronzeville
I know nothing about these teams, other than Payton is always 8-1 or 9-0 then gets rocked by 45 in the IHSA playoff opener every year. I'm thinking they should up their strength of schedule. I guess beating up small charter schools is enough. Take UP Bronzeville in the upset.

Got out of work early yesterday and hit up the Hig. Next thing I know I missed that hot CPL Thursday night action. Another 16 hour span lost in the greatness of that fine establishment.

Since Payton rolled UPB while I was knee deep in Hamm's I'll leave that alone, although it was obvious they would roll.

Kennedy vs Senn - Bay of Pigs or the Dawgz? Pigs are great, Dawgz are better. Go Senn.

Catalyst Maria vs. Harper - Sad story continues, Maria rolls.

Fenger vs. Tilden - Upset special? No way Tilden won't even show up Fingers with the 2-0 victory!

Lindblom vs Schurz - More dogs this time. Lindblom can't even spell its name right, only one o? Go bulldogs even though purple and yellow makes we want to vomit, although again that could be due to the past 16 hours.

Mather vs. Steinmetz - The Rock returns to the WWE on Smackdown tonight, along with Stone Cold Steve Austin. Bringing back some of the glory years of the WWE. Was does this have to do with Mather and the Metz? IT DOESN"T MATHER WHAT YOU THINK!!! Rock bottom followed by the People's Elbow for the W.

Kennedy vs. Senn: Man da crusaderz wil alwys hav dat special place in da heart of c'mon man. Wit der blue and da gold, dey be finna ready to lay a whoopin on sum humanz. But, dis week dey got da dawgz!!! Cruasderz hate ridin da bus, and dey gotta go to winnie the pooh mac stadium. Dey don't even know any of da streetz on da north side. Da cruasderz finna be lost up on dat north side, and da dawgz will attack from all anglez.

Translation: Kennedy has to sit on a long bus ride on a Friday. Senn is gonna roll, expect a margin of victory of at least 17-20 points.

Dyett vs. Corliss: Man get da black and da gold outta here today! Der finna to be duzens of fanz wearin da black and da gold today! But who r dey cheerin forz in dis tuff tuff match. Gately is where it gonna go down today! Small gain on da play! Der gunna be lotz n lotz of small gain playz today for Dyett as dey finna gonna hav to go on a diet afta dis butt whoopin today. Da trojanz all da way! De only peepz dey cant beat are dem noble schoolz. Man dat is where its at. Afta all, dey gotta take dat long walk all da way cross da streetz to roll in today!

Translation: In a battle of two black and gold teams, Corliss will walk across the street to Gately and take care of business. Corliss is undefeated this season against non Noble-Street schools. That trend continues today. Corliss by double digits.

North Lawndale vs. Back of the Yards: In da battle of many word schoolz, the yardz take on da lawn. Man i thought da yard and da lawn were da same???? Man dis is confusin and all I know is I finna gotta go cut da grass today. And I gonna do it wit a bobcat!!! Oh man, dat's da nickname of dat yards school. Da bobcats gonna be rollin today!

Translation: These schools have long names, but everybody would prefer a yard over a lawn. The Bobcats will be cutting the lawn all day today as they roll over the Phoenix. Back of the Yards in a blowout today.

Muchin vs. Crane Medical: Man der gonna be sum surgery happenin today as da medicalz go to town on doze munchin muchins. Munchkinz are real good stuff, but dey aint good at dis game. Let da cranez loose, as dey fly all over da great Rockne stadium today. Da cranez be rockin at rockne all day today. Big gainz happnin down in da hood today.

Translation: Crane Medical has scored 106 points in their last two games. Look for a lot of points in this one, and a lopsided affair. Crane wins big today.

Harlan vs. South Shore: Man Eckasall is where it at!! Man all CPS fanz gotta make da trip one day to dis great hous of CPS football. Da Falconz are takin on da Tarz today. What da heck is a tar?? Isnt dat wat da roadz are made of? Tar is flat, and da tarz will be flat like sum pancaks today! Da Falcons gunna fly all over da stadium!

Translation: South Shore is 0-5 and Harlan has won their last three games 104-0. Look for Harlan to pitch another shutout today.

Catalyst Maria vs Harper: Dat story in da paper bout da closin of Harper wuz saddnin. Doze kids need a gud season to finish da history. But, da catalyst maria wolvez are comin to da great Stagg today!!!! Stagg, man datz where it's at. Dey got nachoz, with doze pepperz and dey got hot dogz with dat mustard and dat relish. Dey also got wolvez today feastin on sum cardinalz!

Translation: This is truly a historic season for Harper. We will be sad to see them go. Unfortunately today, the Catalyst Maria Wolves are gonna win a close one over the Harper Cardinals. While you're at this game, get some food, it's great over there at Stagg.

Quest vs. Rauner: Man da peepz know dat Pritzka is where its at now!!! Man dat guy Rauner, he finna lost and he gone now. But, da peepz with the name Rauner on dey jerseyz, man dey finna play some noble streetz football. Dey be rollin all over da place, and dey finna go to dat Winnimac stadium and roll all ova da park on da north side today!

Translation: Quest will still be on a quest for their first win after today. They will be unaffected by the CPS strike date as they already had an open date. That is some great scheduling there. Rauner rolls today by at least three touchdowns.

Raby vs Curie: Man doze Condorz are sum tuff guyz Just ask dem and dey will tell you dat for surez. No not surez da school. Da fanz will be out dere with da tailgatez down and dey finna have a good time. Get da burgerz and da hot dogz on da grill, cuz the Condorz are hungry.

Translation: The Raby Raiders won't be able to hang with Curie today. Expect Curie to defend their home turf and win by double digits today.

Brooks vs. Kenwood: Man dat Brookz is a great place to play on da blue turf. Man dat is where its at! But man, why da heck is dis game at Gately stadium? Y do we play on da green turf wen we culd play on da blue turf! Blue is da color of succezz, but dat red is da color of power! As in da power I!!! Da greatest formation in da history of da game! Except for dat wing T cuz I love sum chicken wingz!!!

Translation: Brooks doesn't have enough firepower to hang with Kenwood. Kenwood takes care of business in this home game, even though it's a closer commute for Brooks. Only in CPS does the home team have a longer commute.

Toughest Game of the Day: Westinghouse vs. Solorio

Man dis is a game of epic failurez da past few weekz. Both deez teamz have had sum silly lossez dis seazon. Da Sun Warriorz use to do more wit les but now dey been doin less wit less. In da long run. da Green and Yellow Warriorz gonna beat doze Maroon and gold sun warriorz!! Dey gonna be 22 warriorz on da field at the same timez today!! Its gunna be Leg-en---waitz for it---Dairy!!!!!! Dere may even be sum cowz that go rollin in becuz dey herd bout all da Warriorz battlin!!

Translation: Both teams have had some shocking results this season. I'll take Westinghouse to win a close game as the Sun Warriors can't perform at an optimal level at night.

Our friend the ghost had a bit to say about mr Kennedy, but we all know how his story ended. And thats exactly what the Dawgs are gonna do to Kennedy has they roll to victory! and we all know the outcome of his "encounter" with Ms. Monroe as well....and it sounds itchy

Catalyst Maria vs Harper
Catalyst Maria reminds me a lot of a little known football powerhouse known as Caz Marie. I used to date a girl named Marie. She actually worked at a pizza shop called Marie's -no relation- to make enough money for her biweekly pack of smokes. Her favorite movie was West Side story, which I knew was fiction when a man running down the streets of the spanish bronx screamed "MARIA!!" and only one woman poked her head out of a window. Unfortunate that Harper is closing down, but its survival of the fittest only in CPL!

another day of pick'em, another day i get out Fenger fingers foam finger and cheer them on to victory. Its fallacy to forfeit to fenger just to flee from falling frightfully, but Tilden still gets shut out!

Lindblom vs Schurz
Schurz is a very nice looking building, but they have been terrible at football since before the chicago fire, but the Chicago Fire is a soccer team and I hate soccer, so the pick is obviously Lindblom 21-Schurz 18.

Mather vs Steinmetz
When you're coach just ditches you like a bad habit on the first day of fall camp, you know your team is destined for the depths of despair. Much like the Mets of New York city, the Metz of Stein get embarrassed while the Mather Rangers lead the way!

Payton vs Urban Prep Bronzeville
Walter Payton is obviously the greatest football player of all time to anyone that isn't wearing a puke colored shirt, screaming Skol while swallowing Skoal tobacco, or is a Motor City Masochist. However The ancient proto greeks of Phoenicia created the origins of the roman alphabet which we use today! And although the Bronze age powerhouse never got to watch Sweetness run the rock because they couldn't afford DirectTV, Payton did know how to write! And since Payton is infact a n erd school, I bet they use the Phoenician Alphabet everyday! It all comes back to the Bronze Age baby!
