CPL Pick’Em Week 8

Week 8 is here on Tuesday! While most of you are used to Friday Night Lights, you haven’t lived until you’ve experienced Tuesday Night Lights CPL style! Tuesday Night MACtion has got nothing on the CPL. With a potential teacher strike occurring on Thursday we have many CPL games being played tonight and tomorrow. 39 games were moved to Tuesday and Wednesday and 37 were approved by the IHSA. CPL does have games scheduled for Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Those games involve non playoff conferences I believe and will not be played if we do end up with a teachers strike. For today I will not talk about those games. If we manage to not have a strike remember to check back in on Thursday for another edition of CPL Pick’Em.

I do want to take a moment to give Jaton Jackson a shout-out for managing to get these games in. His leadership is horrible, he has no idea what he’s doing and all in all is bad for CPL football long term but he manages to get some of these games rescheduled. If you know Jaton you know this is shocking and something I don’t think anyone would have expected. Somebody let Janice know little bro finally didn’t drop the ball, but seriously great job Jaton, the coaches and players appreciate you getting these games in. And most importantly I appreciate you getting these games in as I need something to do at work and CPL Pick’Em is always the best way to spend my time!

Lake View Vs Sullivan
Tuesday, 4:15 @ Lane. I mean I don’t know what to say other than Tuesday late afternoon football sounds amazing. It’s at Lane, which kind of stinks but otherwise sign me up! Sullivan appears to be the top dog and should win this one by a wide margin. But Tuesday football sounds great and you do have a double header at Lane today.

Mather vs Brooks
Tuesday, 3:45 at Winnemac. You know what sounds better than a Tuesday 4:15 Lane double header? A 3:45 Tuesday Tuesday kick at Winnemac! Brooks and Mather both wear blue, so personally I’m disappointed this game won’t be played on the Smurf Turf at Brooks, but if it must be played somewhere else I’m glad it’s Winnemac. Winnemac is a natural grass field with a crown so high that a coach on one sideline can only see the coach on the other sideline from the waist up! It’s the best! I know where I’ll be today!

Dunbar vs Whitney Young
This has been one of the most competitive CPL conferences this year. We have 4 teams that have a chance to be playoff eligible! While WY has improved greatly from where they were just 2 years ago they will have to wait another week to become playoff eligible. (Everyone involves please let’s make a deal so we can have CPL action week 9!). The Great Lakes conference runs through Dunbar!

Harlan vs Orr
This is a game of 2 undefeated teams in the Windy City Conference. The winner will be the likely conference champ. I was a big Orr fan last year and I do love rowing the boat! However after catching the first half of the Harlan game last week that team looks like someone you do not want to mess with! Harlan has shut out their opponents the last 5 weeks, while I don’t see a shut out, I do see a Harlan win!

Payton vs Back of the Yards
I do love BOTY. However after stringing together some successful seasons of late BOTY has taken a step back this year. With the loss of their coach to Eisenhower and star player Carp McNickles graduating, the boys of BOTY are trying to find a new identity. Payton was the bully of the Heartland for awhile and has been the bully of the Prairie State for the past 2 seasons. That will continue for at least another week(a big matchup against Kenwood awaits in Week 9). I for one hope when they reshuffle some divisions this offseason Payton gets moved up!

Rejoice! Rejoice! CPL Action is a go. I'll also echo your comments of Jaton. Very happy he got it all worked out. Only thing that works less than him is the plumbing at Lane Stadium.

Lake View Vs Sullivan - Speaking of flushing, I assume LV wants to flush this season, been a rough one. Take Sullivan

Mather vs Brooks - Brooks has to leave the school right about now to try and make it up north in time for this game. Hopefully those kids have lunch for the bus. All that way for nothing. Mather takes it.

Dunbar vs Whitney Young - Men swim in Lakes, Dolphins swim in oceans, seems pretty clear to me Mighty Men take the Great Lakes

Military vs Marine - Aren't the Marines part of the Military? Is this really a game or is it a scrimmage? If its a scrimmage it'd be a friendly? So many questions, so let's figure out some answers. First off its America, so it's definitely not a friendly because we play Football not soccer. And if its football I want the whole of it not just part of it. I'll take the whole damn military. Marine goes down, although without a doubt there's a ton of masculinity raging on that field.

Payton vs Back of the Yards - Payton steam rolls their league every year. Nothing is different this year. The only thing that can change it is the damn teacher strike. How am I going to get my fix of them losing to a high 20s or 30 something seed if this strike happens? Please sweet baby Jesus in your gold fleece diaper, make them come to an agreement. We need to finish out the hot hot CPL slate.

I once had a neighbor who had a dog named Sullivan. Great dog. He used to pull coffee cans out of the trash and chew on them, so he always smelled like coffee. I like coffee. I don't like the way Lake View plays football every week. Pick Sully.

Mather vs Brooks
3:45 Tuesday Start? What is the Vegas number on the amount of fans in the stands at kickoff? I'm setting it at +/- 12. It will be like that baseball game they played in Baltimore with no fans in the stands. Kind of creepy, but super cool. And did I mention that it is on a Tuesday? At 3:45? Take Mather.

Dunbar vs Whitney Young
Whitney Young forfeited their season a couple of years ago because those cake-eaters couldn't handle losing. Mr. T graduated from Dunbar. I pity the fool that doesn't pick Dunbar!

Military vs Marine
This one presents a conundrum. On one sideline, the Marines. On the other sideline, the entire military. Tough to bet against the entire military, but Drake's Devil Dogs are my all time favorite snack cake. Give me those devils food cakes and Marine!

I liked the Harlem Globetrotters when Meadowlark Lemon and Curly Neal played for them. That bucket filled with confetti is some good entertainment! Take the basketball through the legs for the win. Wait, it's HarlaN and not HarleM? No matter I'm still going with the trick shots. Pick Harlen

So they move this game so Payton can get another win, a top seed, and another first round exit from the IHSA playoffs? How does CPS allow them to not bump up and play the top teams in CPS? A true modern day mystery. Pick Payton

I’ll have to find the article but a team from Michigan wanted to come up.Simeon said no.So Simeon thought they were going to play one of the schools who lost a game when Urban West & Marshall dropped football or one of the other schools.That fell thru so then they called that school from Michigan who already got a game with South Bend Clay or one of the home school teams out that way
