Well we’ve made it. The last week of the regular season is upon us. I’d like to thank everyone who’s posters on these threads the last few weeks and all the nice comments I have seen on other threads, glad we can bring a little light to the CPL and have some fun on here. This is a special week of Pick’em as we will only be picking games that has at least one projected(by Soucie) playoff team in it. We don’t touch on all the teams as that would be to many games but we will touch on some of them.

Before we go to the picks I’d like to let everyone know that this will continue throughout the playoffs as long as there is at least one CPL team still playing whether it’s in the prep bowl or state. Additionally look for my all CPL team coming up in the next few weeks.

And here are the picks:
CPL WEEK 9 GAME OF THE WEEK
Kenwood vs payton
Both teams are 8-0. This is for conference. I believe this is the first year these 2 have been in the same conference so we can’t look back on recent years for help. Payton has dominated their previous conference for quite some time while Kenwood has been a team on the rise for the past few years. This is going to be a very interesting game. Payton is extremely multiple on offense and will test the kenwood defenses ability to align and keep gap integrity. Kenwood will probably be the biggest and most physical team Payton has come across this season. I feel like this might be the time when Payton falls to #2 in their conference and Kenwood continues their climb.
Kenwood 35 Payton 24

Back of the Yards vs Clark
BOTY has had a solid season and will be in the playoffs again. In a much more difficult conference without payton and kenwood they have been tested in conference play more this year than ever before. And while they have not yet reached the levels of Payton and Kenwood they are the clear 3rd best team in their conference. BOTY reminds me of Payton and I believe if they can get to that level they will be pretty happy with their play. A quick note, BOTY standout Carl McNickles has had a great season and will lead BOTY to a victory this week.
BOTY 28 Clark 6

Clemente vs Senn
The good ole Wednesday game. Clemente wins conference, qualifies for state and gets rewarded with a Wednesday game, got to love Jaton! Well I was a Senn fan until they chose not to play a few Monday’s ago. I am now a huge Clemente fan and love their big TE Gronk! I got Clemente getting after the dogs on Wednesday and entering the playoffs HOT!
Clemente 35 Senn 6

Solorio vs Perspectives
This is a big one and Solorio needs to win to get in. A few weeks ago I would have given this to Perspectives. But Solorio has gotten hot in recent weeks. Solorio has the dangerous Messiah Travis, as he goes so do the Sun Warriors, and nobody spins the ball on the ground like Travis, Solorio wins and makes the playoffs.
Solorio 35 Perspectives 0

Ag Science vs Orr
Both teams are projected in the playoffs so not sure who Soucie has winning this one. For my money I’ll take Ag Science. If you want to learn about agriculture everyone knows you come to the city of Chicago, if you want to put your Orr in the water you go to Minnesota!
Ag Science 22 Orr 12

Amundsen vs Dunbar
Another matchup of 2 playoff teams. Amundsen is a much bigger school than Dunbar is currently. After last years season that included forfeits and blowouts Dunbar has done an amazing job at rebounding. I believe the mighty men stay mighty.
Dunbar 20 Amundsen 8

Phoenix Military vs Chicago Military
Big rivalry game this week. Phoenix is projected to be in the playoffs. I’ve been saying the Phoenix is rising all year. When the Phoenix beat Chicago Military they will be officially RISEN! It happens this week!
Phoenix 21 Chi Military 0

Lincoln Park vs Morgan Park
A real hard one for me. I thought LP would lose to raby and be eliminated from the playoffs. I was wrong. Do I now picks LP to win or do I double down and pick MP? It’s a hard decision, I’ve gone back and forth, I’ve picked LP…and then I picked MP…then I picked neither team…thought about not including them in the picks…it’s been very stressful…the bears wear orange like MP…LP wears yellow like GB…MP also wears green like GB…Lincoln Park has blue in their uniforms and I like blue. It’s been a hard decision. Well I’m doubling down give me Chris James and Morgan Park!
Morgan Park 18 Lincoln Park 14

Von Steuben vs Urban Prep West
Don’t know much about projected playoff team Von Steuben. But I know their old coach. Alan F. Rood. And let me tell you, this man, was the manliest man of all men. I once went to a game that Von was playing in, I sat on the opposite sideline, had my seat cushion and I was ready for my Thursday 4:30 tilt. Well the one team comes out and they got a coach, blond hair fellow, very old, probably in his late 60s and he yelled. But he’s the yeller who’s just making noise. I’m on his sideline and I can’t make out what he’s saying but my ears are hurting. Alana F. Rood on the other hand is all the way on the other sideline some 70+ yards away from me and this guy is out yelling the old blond man and I can understand every word, once of the best yelling voices you’ll ever see. I know the boys are missing Rood but I believe that when the air blows a certain way Alan F. Rood is able to scream into the air at bishop Mac and his words travel all the way to Lane and his Von boys get after it!
Von Steuben 35 UPW 12

That’s all we got for this week. Some of you may realize we didn’t get to talk about my favorite player, Bland, from Prosser. Prosser is not playoff eligible so they were not included. With all of this being said I do believe that Prosser gets after it, Bland runs wild and Prosser pulls off the big upset against Whitney Young, but both teams are done after this week, so it’s not a projection. But go BLAND go!

Nice work on these write ups my man. Absolutely gets me going to see the CPL love fired back up. Here are my picks...

Every time I have seen Kenwood they have improved. That continues, they upend Payton.

I agree wholeheartedly with you. McNickles has been huge all year and continues it this week, leading BOTY to a big win.

Love that you're calling this kid Gronk! Need to get out and see him ASAP. Going to for sure get that opportunity tomorrow. I mean who doesn't love some Wednesday night CPL action, beats MACtion that's for sure.

Solorio has been on a roll for sure. They keep that going with the win over Perspectives.

Keep on keep Trucking, Ag! That's my favorite team this year. Was able to get down to Gately a few weeks ago and saw them live. They have a lot of heart and heart wins, just like my buddy the Hawk says gotta have TWTW.

I'm going Mightymen with ya. Makes me wonder why they struggled so much last year. Would moving down previously been able to keep them from forfeiting a few of those games?

Like I said last time, America wins this game. Thanks for you dedication and service military schools!

I think Lincoln Park found themselves a few weeks ago. Probably a lot of soul searching in Oz (park) helped them get it back. All Lions this week.

Von struggled out of the gate this year. Maybe because they missed your guy Rood. But they certainly found their voice, although probably not from all his yelling. Von goes away with this one.

Everyone loves Bland, no doubt in my mind if he was at a bigger school he'd be looking at all city maybe all-state honors. Legit talent carries Prosser weekly. Keep it going kid!

See you all next week for those full docket (hopefully) of CPL teams in the playoffs!

Have we reached week 9 already? So glad this is going to keep going on. Best thread in years.

Kenwood over Payton - Question: What does Maxpreps say about this one? The answer: Who cares what Maxpreps says about anything... Take Kenwood

Back of the Yards over Michelle - When it comes to cool team names, Back of the Yards is right up there. Even when you shorten it to BOTY, it is still awesome. Michelle...not so much. BOTY!

Clemente over Senn. Like the OP, I loved Senn until they forfeited. Wouldn't care if they were playing one of those schools that has already called it quits for the season...I still wouldn't pick em. Clemente in a rout...If Senn shows up.

Solario over Perspectives - Lots of D1 signees on the field in this one. Will any of them play like one? I bet...no.

Orr over Ag. In a battle of one syllable teams, take the one that starts with a vowel...um...er...take the one with more letters. Orr

Dunbar over Admunsen - Mighty Men. Mighty Men. Mighty Men. Mighty Men.Mighty Men. Mighty Men.. (James Franklin does that in his weekly pre game tweets at Penn State. Figure I would as well)

Phoenix over Chicago Military - Yes, America wins in this match up. Chicago Military doesn't.

Lincoln Park over Morgan Park - Like the OP, I struggled with this one. I like parks...both are parks. I like Honest Abe a lot more than the girl I dated in 10th grade. Pick Lincoln Park.

Von Stuben over Urban Prep West - I am only familiar with Alan Rood 's work at NIU. Tough Fullback. Always willing to stick his nose in there. Never heard him speak though. As far as yelling goes, I've always believed that you can learn a lot from your elders, so thinking a young pup like Rood could out yell a young and fit 60 year old like the guy you speak of is the very definition of insanity. Fortunately for Von, they still possess the attitude of their former coach and win easily this weekend.

Bonus Pick :

Fenger
with the win over whomever they are playing this week. Playoffs or not.

4 CPL games on the slate tonight. A double Noble matchup at Gately and a double header at Lane. Football on a Wednesday night! Seems like I should get to Lane to check out this Gronk guy from Clemente. What do we have to do to get CPL to play Wednesday night games all year???

If you go to watch Gronk you will not be disappointed, Clemente is a fun watch!

Well all year Wednesday’s id usually tell you to talk to Jaton Jackson the head of CPS football, but you seem like a nice guy and talking to that guy is downright painful.

We do have CPS sophomore football on Tuesdays and Wednesday if you’re lookin for your mid week football fix!

Do they play Sophomore Football at the regular stadiums? I guess I never thought about not being able to play lower level football before a varsity game. I still say Varsity football on Wednesday would give some good attention to CPS programs that get lost in the shuffle on Friday and Saturday.

sorry this took me so long, due to my rampant alcoholism I was trying my hardest to detox before I retox and I knew I needed my full mental facilities for CPL pick em. Now that I have my trusty 12 pack in hand I am ready to go.

CPL WEEK 9 GAME OF THE WEEK
Kenwood vs payton
Both teams are 8-0? But Kenwood is a far superior team to Payton. Payton is way too north to absorb the necessary grit that us true chicagoans know. Kenwood completes the perfect season just like the dolphins did and they go on to have a successful state run. Reserve me a ring boys.

Back of the Yards vs Clark
BOTY is the quintessential Chicago team. Many different type of animal (and possible some man) blood has been spilled in the stockyards from a much tougher time. Back of the yards has absorbed all this tough yet questionable blood. They are tougher than nails, and way tougher than north side nails. Clark was the name of a kid whose lunch money I stole to go buy lucky strikes in grammar school. I don’t pick nerds

Clemente vs Senn
Gronk parties and gets laid. So do I. Apparently Senn does not. Unless they forfeited to go party and get laid instead. Until I can investigate further I will roll with Gronk

Solorio vs Perspectives
This is a good game between two teams that lost pretty bad to some weird suburban team up north a couple weeks ago. My brain says to go with Solorio but my liver said to go with perspectives. And we all know who I listen to more.

Ag Science vs Orr
I could go with Orr, or I could with the aggies! I’ve been very disappointed with Orr this year so I am going to keep rolling with Ag Science as farming is a key concept to the American economy.

Amundsen vs Dunbar
Dunbar should coop with Pheonix because boy have they risen from the ashes. It’s like a hall Mark movie. Get the popcorn.

Phoenix Military vs Chicago Military
This is the CPS version of army navy. I’m gonna keep rolling with rising pheonix because they haven’t let me go down in flames yet.

Lincoln Park vs Morgan Park
A real easy one for me. I heard the Lincoln Park coaches drink daiquiris during practice. Typical north side softies. The mustangs roll through the Lincoln Park yuppies. A lot to a little.

Von Steuben vs Urban Prep West
I am so utterly moved by your passage on this Alan Rood. I read him about him in a sports illustrated once. He clearly was the best CPS coach on the north side. You have motivated me to pick the legacy of Rood and I’m going win Von stubin

Hey SouthsidePlumber, those daiquries taste great. But we've upgraded to Pina Coladas since the W vs Morgan Park, guess we're playoff bound now...??
