Well we’ve made it. The last week of the regular season is upon us. I’d like to thank everyone who’s posters on these threads the last few weeks and all the nice comments I have seen on other threads, glad we can bring a little light to the CPL and have some fun on here. This is a special week of Pick’em as we will only be picking games that has at least one projected(by Soucie) playoff team in it. We don’t touch on all the teams as that would be to many games but we will touch on some of them.
Before we go to the picks I’d like to let everyone know that this will continue throughout the playoffs as long as there is at least one CPL team still playing whether it’s in the prep bowl or state. Additionally look for my all CPL team coming up in the next few weeks.
And here are the picks:
CPL WEEK 9 GAME OF THE WEEK
Kenwood vs payton
Both teams are 8-0. This is for conference. I believe this is the first year these 2 have been in the same conference so we can’t look back on recent years for help. Payton has dominated their previous conference for quite some time while Kenwood has been a team on the rise for the past few years. This is going to be a very interesting game. Payton is extremely multiple on offense and will test the kenwood defenses ability to align and keep gap integrity. Kenwood will probably be the biggest and most physical team Payton has come across this season. I feel like this might be the time when Payton falls to #2 in their conference and Kenwood continues their climb.
Kenwood 35 Payton 24
Back of the Yards vs Clark
BOTY has had a solid season and will be in the playoffs again. In a much more difficult conference without payton and kenwood they have been tested in conference play more this year than ever before. And while they have not yet reached the levels of Payton and Kenwood they are the clear 3rd best team in their conference. BOTY reminds me of Payton and I believe if they can get to that level they will be pretty happy with their play. A quick note, BOTY standout Carl McNickles has had a great season and will lead BOTY to a victory this week.
BOTY 28 Clark 6
Clemente vs Senn
The good ole Wednesday game. Clemente wins conference, qualifies for state and gets rewarded with a Wednesday game, got to love Jaton! Well I was a Senn fan until they chose not to play a few Monday’s ago. I am now a huge Clemente fan and love their big TE Gronk! I got Clemente getting after the dogs on Wednesday and entering the playoffs HOT!
Clemente 35 Senn 6
Solorio vs Perspectives
This is a big one and Solorio needs to win to get in. A few weeks ago I would have given this to Perspectives. But Solorio has gotten hot in recent weeks. Solorio has the dangerous Messiah Travis, as he goes so do the Sun Warriors, and nobody spins the ball on the ground like Travis, Solorio wins and makes the playoffs.
Solorio 35 Perspectives 0
Ag Science vs Orr
Both teams are projected in the playoffs so not sure who Soucie has winning this one. For my money I’ll take Ag Science. If you want to learn about agriculture everyone knows you come to the city of Chicago, if you want to put your Orr in the water you go to Minnesota!
Ag Science 22 Orr 12
Amundsen vs Dunbar
Another matchup of 2 playoff teams. Amundsen is a much bigger school than Dunbar is currently. After last years season that included forfeits and blowouts Dunbar has done an amazing job at rebounding. I believe the mighty men stay mighty.
Dunbar 20 Amundsen 8
Phoenix Military vs Chicago Military
Big rivalry game this week. Phoenix is projected to be in the playoffs. I’ve been saying the Phoenix is rising all year. When the Phoenix beat Chicago Military they will be officially RISEN! It happens this week!
Phoenix 21 Chi Military 0
Lincoln Park vs Morgan Park
A real hard one for me. I thought LP would lose to raby and be eliminated from the playoffs. I was wrong. Do I now picks LP to win or do I double down and pick MP? It’s a hard decision, I’ve gone back and forth, I’ve picked LP…and then I picked MP…then I picked neither team…thought about not including them in the picks…it’s been very stressful…the bears wear orange like MP…LP wears yellow like GB…MP also wears green like GB…Lincoln Park has blue in their uniforms and I like blue. It’s been a hard decision. Well I’m doubling down give me Chris James and Morgan Park!
Morgan Park 18 Lincoln Park 14
Von Steuben vs Urban Prep West
Don’t know much about projected playoff team Von Steuben. But I know their old coach. Alan F. Rood. And let me tell you, this man, was the manliest man of all men. I once went to a game that Von was playing in, I sat on the opposite sideline, had my seat cushion and I was ready for my Thursday 4:30 tilt. Well the one team comes out and they got a coach, blond hair fellow, very old, probably in his late 60s and he yelled. But he’s the yeller who’s just making noise. I’m on his sideline and I can’t make out what he’s saying but my ears are hurting. Alana F. Rood on the other hand is all the way on the other sideline some 70+ yards away from me and this guy is out yelling the old blond man and I can understand every word, once of the best yelling voices you’ll ever see. I know the boys are missing Rood but I believe that when the air blows a certain way Alan F. Rood is able to scream into the air at bishop Mac and his words travel all the way to Lane and his Von boys get after it!
Von Steuben 35 UPW 12
That’s all we got for this week. Some of you may realize we didn’t get to talk about my favorite player, Bland, from Prosser. Prosser is not playoff eligible so they were not included. With all of this being said I do believe that Prosser gets after it, Bland runs wild and Prosser pulls off the big upset against Whitney Young, but both teams are done after this week, so it’s not a projection. But go BLAND go!
